AB SLC 500™ Modular Chassis 1746-A4, -A7, -A10 and -A13 Series B
Installation Preparation: M4 or M5 (#10 or #12) hardware, tools such as screwdrivers, drills, and documentation for the processor, power supply, communications, and I/O modules are required. The number of mounting screws varies by chassis model; for example, the 1746-A4 has four mounting lugs.
Installation Procedure
Allow mounting space: Ensure that the minimum spacing requirements are met and that up to three chassis (30 I/O slots) can be connected. When connecting two 1746-A13 chassis vertically, the spacing must not exceed 15.3 cm.
Mounting the chassis: Drill holes in the back panel of the enclosure prior to installation, install the top mounting lug hardware, slide the chassis over the hardware and tighten the screws, and for ungrounded mounting lugs, install the remaining hardware according to the chassis model.
Grounding operations: Reduce electrical resistance and EMI through multiple steps to achieve proper grounding, including verifying the grounding configuration, installing a central ground bus, and connecting equipment grounding conductors.
Installing Optional Cables and Modules: If you are connecting multiple chassis, install chassis interconnect cables prior to installation. Follow the module and power supply installation instructions to install the I/O module into the chassis and connect the power supply, taking care to remove the protective tabs from the top of the power supply.
Specification
Physical Parameters: The dimensions of different chassis models vary, such as 1746-A4 is 17.7×17.1×14.5 cm, and the weight is also different. All of them are panel mounted.
Electrical parameters: The backplane current is the same, 10A at 5.1V dc and 2.88A at 24V dc. Operating temperature range is 0°C to + 60°C, storage temperature - 40°C to + 85°C, relative humidity 5% to 95% non-condensing.
Approvals: UL, CE and other approvals for Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C, D hazardous or non-hazardous locations.
Processor Module Models for 1746-A4
1746-A4 Chassis Information: The 1746-A4 is part of the SLC 500 Modular Chassis Series B. It has 4 mounting lugs, dimensions of 17.7 x 17.1 x 14.5 cm, and a backplane current of 5.1V dc @ 10A; 24V dc @ 2.88A, and can be used to mount 4 modules. It is suitable for a variety of industrial control fields, such as sequential relay control, motion control, process control and so on.
Possible Processors: The SLC 500 series offers a wide range of processors designed to connect to various networks for distributed processing and distributed I/O control. Although the specific model of the processor module to be paired with the 1746-A4 chassis has not been specified, based on the characteristics of the SLC 500 series, it may be paired with a processor such as the 1747-L553P (this processor is only an example of one of the SLC 500 series, and the actual processor to be paired with the chassis needs to be further confirmed). In actual applications, the appropriate processor module will be selected to be combined with the 1746-A4 chassis based on specific control requirements, I/O point requirements, communication requirements, etc.
Performance Advantages
Modular design and compatibility advantage: As a member of SLC 500 modular chassis series, 1746-A4 supports a variety of module installation, and can be flexibly configured according to the actual needs of the number and type of I/O modules to adapt to different industrial control scenarios. It is perfectly compatible with all kinds of processors, communication modules and power supplies of SLC 500 series to ensure stable system operation.
Easy installation: The chassis is equipped with 4 mounting lugs, which are fixed by M4 or M5 (#10 or #12) screws. In the preparation stage, the tools required are common and easily accessible, such as screwdrivers and drills. The installation procedure is clear, including drilling holes in the back panel of the cabinet, mounting hardware, and fixing the chassis, so even non-experts can get started quickly.
Reasonable grounding design: With perfect grounding design, through the installation of the central grounding busbar, connecting the equipment grounding conductor and other steps, can effectively reduce the electrical resistance, reduce electromagnetic interference, and protect the stable operation of the system. Grounding operations are standardised, such as the use of specific specifications for connecting various parts of the conductor, and detailed requirements for the installation of the grounding conductor, to ensure reliable grounding results.
Stable electrical performance: the backplane current is stable, up to 10A at 5.1V dc and 2.88A at 24V dc, which can provide stable power support for the installed modules and meet the power requirements of different modules. It can work stably within a certain temperature range, the working temperature range is 0°C to + 60°C, the storage temperature is - 40°C to + 85°C, the relative humidity is 5% to 95% without condensation, and it can adapt to various industrial environments.
Complete safety certifications: UL, CE and other safety certifications, in line with the relevant international standards UL certification shows that it meets the safety requirements for industrial control equipment in the United States and Canada; CE certification allows it to comply with the European Union's EMC Directive and other relevant standards, and can be used safely in many regions of the world.
