EATON ELPRO 245U-E series industrial wireless Ethernet products

Product Overview

The ELPRO 245U-E series is a high-performance wireless Ethernet communication solution designed specifically for industrial environments. This series includes two models, 245U-E-G (2.4GHz, 400mW) and 245U-E-A (5GHz, 400mW), which support data transmission rates of up to 54Mbps and have advanced features such as encryption, relay, and mesh networks, suitable for industrial process control and automation applications.

The 245U-E series not only inherits ELPRO's profound technical accumulation in the field of industrial wireless communication, but also integrates the flexibility and security of modern network communication, becoming an ideal bridge connecting industrial field devices with upper level management systems.


Technical features and advantages

1. Multi band support and high-speed transmission

245U-E-G supports the 802.11b/g standard and operates in the frequency range of 2.412 to 2.462GHz; 245U-E-A supports the 802.11a standard and covers the frequency range of 5.20 to 5.825GHz. Both can automatically adjust the transmission rate (1 to 54Mbps) based on signal quality, ensuring stable communication in complex environments.

2. Adjustable transmission power and long-distance communication

The transmission power can be adjusted between 15mW and 400mW to meet the regulatory requirements of different regions. Under line of sight conditions, the transmission distance can reach 5 kilometers (3 miles) at a power of 400mW, making it suitable for wide area deployment scenarios such as oil fields, mines, and traffic monitoring.

3. Flexible networking methods

Support WDS (Wireless Distribution System) multi hop relay function, allowing APs to interconnect and expand coverage range. Combined with the Spanning Tree protocol, the system can achieve network self-healing, automatically switching paths when a node fails, ensuring communication continuity.

4. Integration of multiple working modes

The device integrates multiple modes such as access point (AP), client, bridge, router, etc., reducing inventory costs and improving deployment flexibility.

5. Serial communication and Modbus gateway function

Supports RS232/485 serial interface for client/server/multicast mode, enabling point-to-point and point-to-point serial data transmission. At the same time, the device has a built-in gateway function from Modbus TCP to Modbus RTU, which supports Modbus master polling of I/O devices, greatly simplifying the integration difficulty of industrial control systems.

6. Advanced security mechanisms

Supports military grade encryption standards such as WPA2, 802.11i, and 802.1x, and hardware encryption does not reduce data throughput. Simultaneously providing MAC address and IP filtering functions, effectively controlling network access and preventing illegal intrusion.

Modbus master station function: It can complete I/O polling and data transmission without the need for an external controller.

The following figure shows a typical application scenario: LAN connects field devices in a serial manner through an AP, another AP acts as a Modbus master polling slave I/O, and newly added APs automatically connect through DHCP. The system design is efficient and convenient.
