Product Overview
The Eaton SPD series surge protection device is the latest generation of advanced surge protection devices certified by UL 1449 5th edition. This series of products adopts thermal protection metal oxide varistor (MOV) technology and can be integrated into various types of Eaton distribution equipment, including distribution panels, switchgear, motor control centers, medium voltage switchgear, automatic transfer switches, and busbar junction boxes. In addition, the SPD series also offers a side mounted version that can be installed outside of electrical equipment.
The SPD series covers multiple surge current capacity levels from 50kA to 400kA, supports all common voltages and configurations, and offers four functional package options. Its rich features, options, and configurations ensure that users can choose the most suitable protection unit for various electrical applications, including inlet ports, distribution cabinets, distribution panels, and terminal equipment.
Core technical features
1. Thermal protection MOV technology
The SPD series uses metal oxide varistors as the core protective component and integrates thermal protection function. When MOV generates excessive heat due to abnormal overvoltage, the thermal protection device will isolate it from the circuit to ensure equipment safety and avoid the risk of thermal runaway.
2. UL 1449 5th edition certification
As the latest UL 1449 certified product, the SPD series has undergone rigorous testing, including:
Nominal discharge current (In) test: 20kA
Voltage Protection Rating (VPR) Test
Fault mode testing
Thermal stability test
3. High short-circuit current tolerance
The SPD series has a short-circuit current rating (SCCR) of 200kA, which can withstand the maximum fault current that may occur in the power system without damage.
4. Multiple surge capacity levels
Provide 9 surge current capacity levels, including 50kA, 80kA, 100kA, 120kA, 160kA, 200kA, 250kA, 300kA, and 400kA, to meet the protection needs of different risk levels.
5. Electromagnetic interference filtering
The standard type, standard type with counter, and Power Xpert SPD all have built-in EMI/RFI filters that can provide up to 50dB noise attenuation in the frequency range of 10kHz to 100MHz, improving power quality.
6. Network security authentication
The Power Xpert SPD model has passed UL 2900-1 network security standard testing, ensuring that networked devices have the necessary network security to prevent malicious attacks.

Precautions
PRL1a, 2a, 3a, 3e distribution panel direct busbar installation only supports 50-200kA, using the suffix "A"
When the same distribution panel is connected through a circuit breaker, use the suffix "C"
Power Xpert SPD is not suitable for corner grounded delta systems and requires voltage on each phase to function properly
240V high foot triangle (4W+G) B-phase high foot is standard configuration. If you need C-phase high foot, please consult the factory
