HIRSCHMANN PowerMICE series industrial Ethernet switches

The Husman PowerMICE (Modular Industrial Communication Equipment) series switches are high-performance modular network devices designed to meet the demanding requirements of industrial automation. This series of products is centered around the MS4128 basic module, which provides users with great configuration flexibility by inserting different media modules, enabling it to adapt to diverse application scenarios ranging from 100Mbps access to Gigabit backbone. This installation manual provides users with comprehensive guidance from unboxing inspection, safety precautions, mechanical and electrical installation to basic configuration.

The PowerMICE series switches comply with relevant industry standards, providing extremely high operational reliability even under extreme conditions, and ensuring long-term stability and flexibility. The device adopts a fanless design, supports DIN rail installation, and provides redundant power input, laying a solid foundation for building high availability industrial networks. Its rich management options, including web browser, Telnet, V.24 interface, and Industrial HiVision network management software, make device configuration, monitoring, and maintenance exceptionally convenient.


Core architecture and modular design

2.1 MS4128 Basic Modules

The core of the PowerMICE series is the MS4128 basic module, which integrates all core functional units such as switching, management, redundancy, display control, power connection, and media module slots. The basic module provides:

4 slots: used for installing 10/100 Mbit/s media modules.

1 slot: used for installing gigabit media modules, supporting 2 gigabit ports.

By inserting a 4-port media module, the basic module itself can connect up to 16 100Mbps network segments. If combined with the MB-2T expansion module, an additional 2 100Mbps media module slots can be added, bringing the total number of ports to 24 100Mbps ports, while also providing 4 Gigabit ports to meet high bandwidth requirements.

2.2 Media Module Series

The flexibility of PowerMICE is mainly reflected in its rich selection of media modules, where users can customize physical interfaces for each port based on actual transmission distance and media type.

MM2 series: Provides multiple 100Mbps port combinations, such as 4-port RJ45 electrical port module (MM2-4TX1), 4-port multimode fiber MTRJ module (MM2-4FXM3), and hybrid module for electrical and optical ports (MM2-2FXM3/2TX1).

MM3 series: Provides a wider range of interface types, including ST type multimode fiber module (MM3-4FLM4), MTRJ type multimode fiber module, and long-distance single-mode fiber module (MM3-1FXL2/3TX1), to meet the transmission needs of different distances.

MM4 series: Provides Gigabit Combo port modules such as MM4-4TX/SFP and MM4-2TX/SFP. Each Combo port can use the built-in RJ45 electrical port or insert SFP optical modules, enabling flexible selection of gigabit transmission media.

MM22 PoE module: This module supports the IEEE 802.3af standard (Power over Ethernet) and can provide power to powered devices (PDs) such as IP phones, wireless APs, and network cameras through Ethernet cables. PoE voltage is applied through idle lines, and a single module can power up to 4 Class 0 or Class 3 devices.

SFP module: Provides a wide range of 100M and 1G SFP optical module options, including multimode, single-mode, long-distance (LH), and single fiber bidirectional (BIDI) modules, greatly expanding the coverage range of the network.


ATEX certification and safety regulations for use in hazardous areas

An important feature of the PowerMICE series is that it has passed ATEX certification and can be used in potentially explosive environments. The manual provides detailed safety usage conditions for this purpose.

3.1 ATEX certification mark and conditions

Certification mark: Equipment models suitable for hazardous areas (such as MS4128-xxx) are clearly marked with the II 3G and Ex nA IIC T4 Gc markings, with an ambient temperature range of 0 ° C to+60 ° C.

Installation shell requirements: The equipment must be installed in a suitable shell that meets the requirements of EN 60079-15, has a protection level of at least IP54, and requires the use of tools to open the lid.

Power terminal fixation: The power plugs P1 and P2 must be fixed using the accompanying Z-shaped metal sheet and M2.5 screws with toothed washers to prevent loosening in vibration environments.

Transient voltage protection: Measures must be taken to prevent the rated voltage from being exceeded by transient disturbances exceeding 119V.

Cable temperature requirements: If the temperature at the entry point of the cable or conduit exceeds 70 ° C or the temperature at the branch point of the conductor exceeds 80 ° C under rated conditions, the temperature specifications of the selected cable must conform to the actual measured temperature value.

Do not open with electricity: Clear warning "DO NOT OPEN WHEN ENERGY" (Do not open with electricity).

3.2 General Electric Safety

SELV/PELV power supply: For safety reasons, the equipment is designed to use low voltage power supply. SELV circuits that comply with IEC/EN 60950-1 voltage limits must be connected to the power connection terminals and signal contacts. The power supply voltage is electrically isolated from the casing.
