The Lauer PCS009 Topline Micro is an ultra‑compact operator terminal designed for minimal space requirements in small machinery, packaging equipment, and standalone automation cells. Despite its small size, it provides a complete operator interface with a clear display and a full set of input keys, enabling local control, parameter setting, and status visualization without requiring a large panel.
The terminal features a 2‑line by 16‑character LCD with a yellow‑green LED backlight. The display includes a contrast adjustment trimmer accessible from the side. The screen supports ASCII and a limited set of international characters. The keypad consists of 8 keys: 4 directional arrows, Enter, Escape, and two user‑programmable function keys (F1, F2). The keys have a low‑profile membrane design with a tactile dome, rated for 300,000 cycles. The front overlay is IP54 rated, offering protection against splashes and dust.
Power Supply: 24 V DC ±15 %, 80 mA (typical) – accepts 19‑30 V DC
Communication: RS‑232 (9‑pin D‑sub) with baud rates 2400‑115200, configurable
Protocols: LAUER proprietary, Modbus RTU (slave), ASCII
Memory: 64 KB flash for 32 screens and 64 variables
Real‑time Clock: Not available (time‑stamping via PLC)
Housing: ABS plastic, self‑extinguishing (UL94 HB)
Dimensions: 72 mm x 36 mm x 28 mm (W x H x D)
Panel Cut‑out: 68 mm x 32 mm (±0.2 mm)
Mounting: Snap‑in spring clips, panel thickness 1‑3 mm
Weight: 0.1 kg
Protection: Front IP54, rear IP20
Operating Temperature: 0 °C to 45 °C
The PCS009 is programmed using the LAUER PCS‑MicroConfig tool, a simplified version of the full PCS‑Config software. The tool allows the user to create screens with fixed text, numeric variables (integer or decimal), and up to two selection lists. The software is Windows‑based and communicates with the terminal via the RS‑232 port using a special programming cable (included with the starter kit). The tool also includes a simulation mode for offline testing.
Cut the panel opening, insert the terminal from the front, and press until the spring clips lock into place. Connect the 24 V DC power supply using the two‑pin screw terminal (observe polarity). Connect the RS‑232 cable (3‑wire: RX, TX, GND) to the 9‑pin D‑sub. If using a PLC with a different pinout, refer to the connection diagram in the manual. After wiring, power on – the unit will show the default screen. If the display is blank, adjust the contrast potentiometer. The terminal is now ready for configuration download.
The PCS009 is maintenance‑free except for occasional cleaning of the front overlay with a soft cloth. The LED backlight has a long lifetime (30,000 hours). Common issues: “No Communication” – check the cable connections and the baud rate in both the terminal and the master; “Screen Scrambled” – reload the configuration; “Keypad Unresponsive” – check for mechanical obstruction. There are no user‑serviceable parts inside; if the unit fails, it must be replaced.
The PCS009 is ideal for small conveyors, labelling machines, printing presses, and test stands. It is compatible with all LAUER controllers and with PLCs that support Modbus RTU or a free ASCII protocol. The terminal can be powered directly from the PLC’s 24 V output (if sufficient current). For multi‑drop applications, an RS‑485 version (PCS009‑R) is available.
