OMRON C60K-CDR-D K-Type CPU PLC

The OMRON C60K-CDR-D is a K-type Programmable Controller CPU unit that provides a complete control solution for industrial automation applications. With 60 built-in I/O points and relay outputs, this PLC offers an effective way to automate processing, manufacturing, assembly, packaging, and many other processes while saving time and reducing operational costs. The K-type controllers are known for their robust construction and reliable operation in demanding industrial environments.

Product Overview

The C60K-CDR-D is part of OMRON's K-type Programmable Controller family, which has been widely adopted in industrial automation for its reliability and ease of use. The K-type controllers are equipped with large programming instruction sets, comprehensive data areas, and other features that enable direct control of industrial processes. The CPU unit contains the user program and connects to input and output devices, monitoring input status and activating outputs according to the programmed logic. The K-type operation manual describes the characteristics and capabilities of these programmable controllers, including detailed information about programming operations, instructions, and other aspects of operation that require attention. Distributed control systems can be designed using multiple K-type units, allowing centralized monitoring and supervision of several separate controlled systems through a host computer connection. The CPU unit is designed for DIN rail mounting or direct panel mounting, providing installation flexibility for various control cabinet layouts.

I/O Configuration

The C60K-CDR-D provides a total of 60 I/O points, comprising 32 input points and 28 output points. The input section is designed for 24 VDC operation, providing compatibility with a wide range of industrial sensors including proximity switches, photoelectric sensors, limit switches, and pushbuttons. The inputs are optically isolated to protect the PLC from electrical noise and transient voltages common in industrial environments. The input response time is adjustable to accommodate different sensor types and to filter out contact bounce. The output section uses relay outputs with sockets, offering the flexibility to switch both AC and DC loads with electrical isolation between the PLC and field devices. Relay outputs are particularly suitable for applications requiring switching of contactors, solenoids, pilot lights, and other loads where the switching frequency is moderate. The sockets simplify replacement of output relays if service becomes necessary, reducing system downtime during maintenance. Each output relay is rated for 2A at 250 VAC or 30 VDC, with a common terminal arrangement that allows grouping of outputs by common voltage levels.

Programming and Operation

K-type programmable controllers utilize ladder-diagram programming methods, a graphical programming language that uses symbols and control concepts originating in relay-based control systems. This familiar approach makes the PLC accessible to technicians and engineers with backgrounds in traditional electrical control systems. The programmable controller operates by monitoring the status of all input points and turning corresponding input bits ON or OFF based on the actual field conditions. The user program then evaluates the input bit status and determines which output bits should be activated. Finally, the output points are turned ON or OFF based on the status of the output bits, completing the control cycle. This scan-based operation repeats continuously, providing real-time control of the industrial process. The program execution time for a typical 1000-step program is approximately 10 milliseconds, ensuring responsive control even for high-speed processes.

System Expansion

The C60K-CDR-D can utilize a number of additional units including dedicated Special I/O Units that can be used for specific tasks such as analog I/O, high-speed counting, and temperature control. Link Units can also be added to build more highly integrated systems, allowing multiple PLCs to share data and coordinate operations. A maximum of 10 expansion units can be connected to the base CPU unit, each providing additional I/O capacity or special functions. The expansion I/O units are available in various configurations including 8-input, 8-output, and 16-point mixed modules, allowing system designers to scale the I/O capacity to match application requirements. This expansion capability allows the basic C60K-CDR-D system to grow with application requirements, from simple standalone machine control to complex distributed control networks. Monitoring and supervision can be performed through a host computer, connecting the controlled system to enterprise data systems and enabling automatic adjustments to compensate for changing production requirements.

Memory and Data Areas

The C60K-CDR-D includes a comprehensive memory structure for program storage and data handling. The user program is stored in non-volatile EEPROM memory that retains its contents even when power is removed, eliminating the need for battery backup for program storage. The program memory capacity is 1194 steps, sufficient for a wide range of control applications from simple relay replacement to moderately complex sequencing and interlocking. Data memory areas include 256 internal auxiliary relays for temporary logic storage, 64 holding relays that retain their state through power cycles, 32 timers with selectable time bases, 32 counters, and 64 data memory words for numerical data storage. The timers and counters can be programmed with set values up to 9999, providing flexibility for timing and counting applications. The data memory words can be used to store setpoints, accumulated values, and other application-specific parameters.

Environmental Specifications

The C60K-CDR-D is designed for reliable operation within an ambient temperature range of 0 to 55°C during operation, with storage capabilities extending from -20°C to 75°C. The unit should be installed in a clean, dry location protected from excessive vibration, moisture, and corrosive atmospheres to ensure long-term reliable performance. The humidity range for operation is 35% to 85% non-condensing. Proper installation practices include maintaining adequate clearance around the unit for heat dissipation and access for wiring and maintenance. The relay outputs have specified electrical ratings and expected mechanical and electrical service life that should be considered when designing applications with high-cycle switching requirements. The mechanical life of the output relays is 20 million operations under no-load conditions, while the electrical life is 100,000 operations at rated load.

Communication and Networking

The C60K-CDR-D supports communication with host computers and other PLCs through its RS-232C port. The communication parameters including baud rate (up to 9600 bps), data bits, parity, and stop bits are configurable through the programming software. The PLC can operate in host link mode, allowing a host computer to read and write I/O data, monitor program execution, and control the PLC's operating mode. For no-protocol communication, the PLC can send and receive data to serial devices such as bar code readers, printers, and weighing scales. The communication port is also used for programming and program transfer using CX-Programmer or earlier SYSMAC support software. When multiple PLCs are networked together, they can exchange data through the RS-232C port using a 1:N host link configuration with an appropriate converter.
