ABB Electrical PSS30/52-500L Soft Starter

Basic Parameters

Rated voltage: the rated voltage of main circuit is 208-500V AC, the rated voltage of control power supply is 220-240V AC.

Rated current: the rated working current is 30A for on-line connection and 52A for internal delta connection.

Rated power: the rated power varies under different voltages, 18.5kW for on-line connection and 30kW for internal delta connection at 500V, 15kW for on-line connection and 25kW for internal delta connection at 400V, 7.5kW for on-line connection and 12.5kW for internal delta connection at 230V.

Functional features

Soft start function: By controlling the conduction angle of the three opposite parallel thyristors, the input voltage of the controlled motor starts from zero and rises gradually according to the preset function relationship until the end of the starting process to give the motor full voltage, thus realising the smooth start of the motor, effectively reducing the starting current, avoiding the start of the overcurrent tripping, and reducing the impact on the power grid and mechanical equipment.

Soft stop function: contrary to the soft start process, the voltage is gradually reduced and the speed is gradually reduced to zero, avoiding the torque impact caused by free stop, which can effectively protect the mechanical equipment and prolong its service life.

Protection function:

Overload protection: Introducing current control loop, tracking and detecting the change of motor current at any time, realising the overload protection function by increasing the setting of overload current and inverse time limit control mode, when the motor is overloaded, it will turn off the thyristor and send out an alarm signal.

Phase-loss protection: detect the change of three-phase line current at any time during the work, once the current is cut off, it can make the phase-loss protection response to prevent the motor from being damaged due to phase-loss operation.

Overheating protection: detect the temperature of thyristor radiator through internal thermal relay, once the radiator temperature exceeds the permissible value, the thyristor will be shut down automatically and an alarm signal will be issued.

Control function: with bypass signal relay, when the motor reaches the rated number of revolutions, it can automatically replace the thyristor that has completed the task with bypass contactor, provide the rated voltage for the normal operation of the motor, reduce the heat loss of the thyristor, prolong the service life of the soft starter, improve its efficiency, and make the power grid to avoid harmonic pollution.

Signal Indication Function: Equipped with multiple LED indicators, such as green signal indicating the completion of the start ramp, ready to start/standby, running, red signal indicating fault, etc., which is convenient for the user to understand the soft starter and the motor's operation status intuitively.

Applications

Industrial field: Widely used in factories, fans, pumps, compressors, conveyor belts and other mechanical equipment, motor start control, can effectively reduce the starting current, reduce the impact on the power grid, improve the service life of the equipment and the reliability of the operation, to ensure the stability of the production process.

Construction field: It is also applied in the air-conditioning system, lift, water pump and other equipments in the building, which can achieve smooth starting and avoid voltage fluctuation caused by excessive starting current, which affects the normal operation of other electrical equipments.

Transportation field: it can be used for starting motors in metro, light rail and other rail transit systems to ensure the smooth operation of the system and reduce the mechanical shock and electrical loss during the starting process.

Energy field: such as wind power, hydropower and other renewable energy systems, help to improve energy efficiency, to ensure the safe and stable operation of power generation equipment.
