Basic Introduction

ABB INTKM01 Time Keeper Master Module is a time management master module from ABB. It plays a key time synchronization and management role in automation systems, distributed control systems (DCS), and industrial network environments, ensuring that devices and modules within the system operate based on a precise and uniform time reference.

Features

Accurate time synchronization

High-precision time source support: It can be connected to high-precision external time sources, such as the Global Positioning System (GPS), BeiDou satellite navigation system or atomic clocks. By receiving these high-precision time signals, the INTKM01 module can synchronize system time down to the microsecond or even nanosecond level, providing a highly accurate time reference for the entire system. For example, in fault detection and recording of power systems, precise time synchronization ensures that the time of events recorded by devices in different locations is precisely the same, making it easy to accurately analyze the sequence and cause of faults.

Internal Clock Accuracy Maintenance: The module's own internal clock maintains a high level of accuracy even when the connection to the external time source is temporarily lost. It adopts advanced crystal technology and clock calibration algorithms, which can maintain the time error within an acceptable range for a certain period of time (e.g. hours or days, depending on the configuration), ensuring the continuity and stability of system time.

Time signal distribution and broadcast function

Multiple communication interface support: Equipped with multiple communication interfaces, such as Ethernet interface, RS-485 interface, etc., which are used to send time synchronization signals to other devices and modules in the system. Through the Ethernet interface, time signals can be broadcast to devices within the LAN using Network Time Protocol (NTP) or Precision Time Protocol (PTP); through the RS-485 interface, customized time synchronization protocols can be used to send time signals to connected serial devices, ensuring that different types of devices can receive accurate time information.

Time synchronization management for large-scale devices: It can provide time synchronization service for a large number of devices at the same time. It can manage and configure multiple time synchronization groups to synchronize devices of different types, different regions or different functions in groups to improve the efficiency and flexibility of time synchronization. For example, in a large industrial automation factory, the devices on the production line can be divided into one group, and the devices on the monitoring system can be divided into another group and managed separately for time synchronization.

Time Stamping Function and Event Sequence Recording

Precise Timestamp Marking: Add precise timestamps to events and data within the system. Whether it is a change in device status, the moment of data acquisition, or the time of sending a control command, the INTKM01 module can time stamp it with high precision. These timestamps can be used for subsequent data tracing, fault analysis and performance evaluation. For example, in a water treatment process control system, timestamps can record the acquisition time of water quality monitoring data and help analyze the time pattern of water quality changes.

Sequence of Events (SOE) Support: Working with other modules in the system, it can accurately record the sequence of events. In the case of multiple events occurring at the same time or occurring frequently within a short period of time, it can record the occurrence time and related information of each event in detail according to the chronological order, providing an important basis for troubleshooting and system optimization. For example, in the chemical production process, when multiple alarms are triggered at the same time, the sequence of events can be recorded to quickly determine the first problematic link.

Time Accuracy Parameters

External time source synchronization accuracy: When connected to a high-quality external time source (e.g. GPS), the time synchronization accuracy can reach ±10 microseconds or even higher, depending on the quality of the external time source and the signal transmission conditions.

Internal Clock Accuracy: In the absence of external time source, the daily error of the internal clock can be controlled within ±1 second, and the accuracy of the internal clock can be further improved through regular calibration.
