Technical characteristics
Diverse controller performance
Task Processing and Memory: Different controller models have the same number of tasks and programme capacity, such as 32 tasks and 100 programmes/tasks in most models, but the user memory varies greatly, from 384KB in the 1769-L16ER-BB1B to 3MB in the 1769-L36ERM and 3MB in the 1768-L45, which meets the storage requirements of applications of different sizes.
Communication Ports and Connectivity: Most controllers feature dual EtherNet/IP ports and USB ports for easy device connectivity and programming. The number of EtherNet/IP connections varies from model to model. For example, the 1769-L16ER-BB1B supports 4 EtherNet/IP connections, while the 1769-L36ERM supports 48, which meets the requirements of different communication scales. Some controllers also support ControlNet, DeviceNet and other network communications.
Motion Control Capability: Some controllers have integrated motion control function, such as 1769-L30ERM supports up to 4-axis, 1769-L36ERM supports up to 16-axis EtherNet/IP network integrated motion control; 1768 series controllers support multi-axis motion control through SERCOS interface module, the number of axes and the number of feedback axes are different for different models.
Rich Communication Features
EtherNet/IP communication: As an open industrial network standard, it supports real-time I/O messaging and message exchange. The controller integrates dual-port EtherNet/IP and supports a variety of topologies. The communication rate is 10/100Mbps for different models, but the number of connected nodes and TCP/IP connections are different.
ControlNet communication: Used for real-time, high-throughput applications, adopting CIP protocol, combining I/O network and peer-to-peer network functions, supporting deterministic and repeatable data transmission. 1768 series controllers support ControlNet communication through the relevant modules, and the communication rates are 5Mbps and 10/100Mbps.
DeviceNet communication: It is the bottom layer network, connecting simple industrial equipment and high-level equipment. 1769-SDN and 1769-ADN modules support DeviceNet communication, and the communication rate and the number of nodes are different for different modules.
Serial communication: Some of the controllers support serial communication, either through the 1769-ASCII module for ASCII interface or through the 1769-SM2 module for Modbus RTU interface.
Outstanding safety features: The Compact GuardLogix controllers (1768 - L4xS series) are available with SIL 3/PLe safety levels, with safety and standard features integrated in one project. The development phase allows multiple operations, and after project testing the safety tasks can be locked down to SIL 3 integrity level, where the safety logic cannot be modified.
Wide range of I/O modules
1734 POINT I/O modules: A wide range of AC digital, DC digital, relay contact output, analogue and temperature, counter, self-configuring and special I/O modules are available. Each module differs in voltage category, number of inputs and outputs, resolution, etc. For example, the 1734 - IA2 has two 120V AC non-isolated inputs, and the 1734 - IE2C has two 4-20mA current inputs with 16-bit resolution.
1769 Compact I/O Modules: Again, there are a variety of types, such as AC digital, DC digital, analogue, analogue RTD and thermocouple, special I/O modules, etc. The modules are available in a wide range of voltages, operating ranges and thermocouples. The modules differ in terms of operating voltage range, input and output characteristics, resolution, backplane current and power supply distance.
