DESCRIPTION
The ABB REL561 1MRK002496-AC is a full-featured, technologically advanced line differential protection terminal and distance protection terminal, whose powerful protection and control functions make it an indispensable and important piece of equipment in power systems.
Main Protection Functions
Line differential protection
Phase-separated current differential: Measurement of the evaluated amplitude and phase angle, improved stability by means of a CT saturation detector, continuous compensation of transmission delays.
Transmission trip charging current compensation within the digital communication channel: master/master design for interface to multiplexed connections.
Line distance protection
Simultaneous measurement of different phase-to-phase impedances and phase-to-ground impedances within the digital measuring element.

Technical features
Differential current protection: allows comparison of currents entering and leaving a protected overhead line or cable and requires reliable communication facilities to allow exchange of information between terminals at each end of the line. This differential function provides phase isolation to provide true current differential protection for transmission, sub-transmission and distribution networks.
Digital systems: Used in modern digital communication systems, including multiplexing and routing switching systems. Current comparisons are made on a per-phase basis, avoiding the problems of current summation methods and providing phase selection information for unipolar tripping.
Current Differential Function: Using a master/slave design, each phase of current is evaluated separately at each end, utilising both current magnitude and phase angle (isolated vector comparison). All currents are Fourier filtered to extract sine and cosine components.
Data transmission: In a message transmitted every 5 ms to the remote terminal via a synchronised 56/64 kbit/s data channel. The information also includes differential function monitoring, CT saturation detection, terminal synchronisation and transmission of trip signals.
