GE IC697BME731 Bus Expansion Modules
GE IC697BME731 Bus Expansion Modules
DESCRIPTION
The IC66* Bus Controller (GBC/NBC) is available as a single channel controller. It occupies a single IC66* PLC slot. The bus controller is configured by the MS DOS or Windows programming software configu rator function. IC66* Input/Output blocks are scanned asynchronously by the bus controller and I/O data is transferred to the CPU once per scan over the backplane of the IC697 PLC rack. The bus controller also supports directed communica tions initiated by a PLC CPU Communication Service Request. In addition, it may be configured to perform global communications.
FEATURES
Thirty Drops per channel
IC66* (IC660 or IC661) I/O Diagnostics
Redundant blocks, cables and CPUs supported
Global Communications
Hand Held Monitor Port
IC66* LAN Communications
Soft configuration by CPU
Operation augmented by IC697 PLC Alarm Pro cessor function
Installation
Installation should not be attempted without refer ring to the applicable PLC Installation Manual.
Make sure rack power is off.
Install in rack.
Turn on power.
Technical Specifications
Channels and Ports:
The module has 1 channel for interfacing with devices on the same bus.
Also, has 1 Hand Held Monitor (HHM) port for downloading configurations to the module using the MS DOS or Windows programming software configurator function.
Default Configuration:
The module is delivered with no bus address defined.
The configuration software sets the default address to 153.6 Kbaud standard and bus address 31.
Address modification:
The default bus address can be modified by downloading a valid configuration to the CPU.
The maximum allowable distance of the communication bus is 2000 feet when configured as 153.6 Kbaud (standard); 3500 feet when configured as 153.6 KBaud (extended); 4500 feet when configured as 76.8 KBaud; and 7500 feet when configured as 38.4 KBaud.
Physical Connections and Bus Cables:
The physical communications cable used to establish the network is a Belden Model 9182 cable.
Bus terminator plugs must be installed on both ends of the bus.
Other Features:
This bus controller module supports the transfer of global data between CPUs via Windows-based software configuration.
An IC697 PLC alarm system can be added for reporting time-stamped faults on the processor data sheet.
III. Installation and Configuration
Installation:
Before installation, make sure the rack power is off.
Securely fasten the module to the PLC rack.
When power is applied, the module should power up and the top LED blinks for approximately 5 seconds. The top LED stays on after successful diagnostics.
Configuration:
Use the MS DOS or Windows programming software configurator function to download the configuration to the module.
Parameters such as bus address and baud rate can be changed by modifying the configuration.
