Basic Introduction

ABB IPFLD24 Field Power Module - 24 Vdc is a field power module introduced by ABB, which is mainly used to provide stable 24V DC power supply for various equipments in industrial field. It is a key component in industrial automation systems, process control systems and many other fields to ensure the normal power supply of equipment.

Functional features

Stable power output

High-precision output voltage: It can provide high-precision 24V DC output voltage. The accuracy of the output voltage can usually reach about ±1%, which ensures that the equipment connected to the module can receive stable and accurate power supply, and reduces equipment failures that may be caused by voltage fluctuations. For example, for voltage-sensitive electronic devices, such as certain modules of a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), precision sensors, etc., a stable voltage supply is key to their proper operation.

Low Ripple Output: With low ripple coefficient, generally the peak-to-peak ripple voltage can be controlled within a certain range, such as less than 100mV. low ripple output helps to avoid the equipment from being interfered by the power supply, especially for some analog signal processing equipment, such as analog input/output modules, the low ripple power supply can improve the accuracy and stability of the signal.

Complete Protection Functions

Overcurrent protection: Built-in overcurrent protection mechanism. When the output current exceeds the rated current of the module, it will automatically take protective measures, such as cutting off the output or limiting the current, to prevent damage to the equipment. For example, if a short-circuit fault occurs in a connected device, resulting in an instantaneous increase in current, the module is able to respond quickly to protect the device and itself from the impact of excessive current.

Short-circuit protection: In the event of a short-circuit at the output, the module can effectively protect itself and the connected equipment. It will quickly cut off the power output, to avoid short-circuit triggered by fire and other safety hazards. Moreover, after the short-circuit fault is eliminated, the module can usually resume normal work automatically, reducing the need for manual intervention.

Over-voltage protection: with over-voltage protection, it can prevent the output voltage from being too high and causing damage to the equipment. If there is a fault within the module or the input voltage is abnormal resulting in a tendency for the output voltage to be too high, the over-voltage protection circuit will be activated to stabilize the output voltage and ensure the safety of the equipment.

Adapt to multiple input power sources

Wide Input Voltage Range: It supports a wide input voltage range and can generally adapt to 100 - 240V AC input. This wide range of input adaptability makes it able to work normally in different industrial field power supply environments, whether in some areas with large fluctuations in grid voltage, or in places with different voltage standards, it is able to stably convert the input voltage to 24V DC output.

Status Monitoring and Indication Functions

Power Status Indicator: Equipped with an intuitive power status indicator, it shows the working status of the module through different light colors or flashing methods. For example, a green indicator light may indicate normal working status, while a flashing red indicator light may indicate a malfunction, which is convenient for on-site maintenance personnel to quickly understand the operation of the module and find and solve problems in time.

Input Characteristics

Input voltage range: usually 100 - 240V AC, and can adapt to a certain frequency range of AC input, such as 50Hz - 60Hz.

Input current: the input current will vary according to the output load, under full load condition, the input current will be determined according to the conversion efficiency of the module and other factors, generally within a certain range, such as 1 - 2A (the specific value depends on the power of the module and other factors).

Output Characteristics

Output voltage: the rated output voltage is 24V DC, the accuracy can reach ±1%.

Output current: Rated output current, such as 5A or 10A and other different specifications, to meet the power supply needs of different load equipment.

Ripple Voltage: The peak-to-peak ripple voltage is generally less than 100mV, ensuring the stability of the output power supply.

Electrical Parameters

Efficiency: The conversion efficiency of power supply is high, generally between 70% - 90%, the specific efficiency value depends on the load size and input voltage and other factors.

Insulation resistance: the module has a high insulation resistance between the input and output, generally greater than 10MΩ, to ensure electrical safety, to prevent short-circuit or leakage between the input power supply and the output power supply.
