Description
NBTM01 Bus Transfer Module

ABB NBTM01 Bus Transfer Module

Basic Introduction

ABB NBTM01 Bus Transfer Module is a device that plays a key role in industrial automation and control systems. It is mainly used to realize the data transfer and conversion between different buses, ensure the smooth flow of data in the system between multiple communication networks, and maintain the coherence and synergy of the whole automation system.

Functional features

Bus conversion function

Multi-bus compatibility: The module can support a variety of common industrial bus protocols, such as Profibus, Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet and so on. This makes it possible to build a bridge of communication between bus networks of different protocols, facilitating system integration of equipment from different manufacturers and protocols. For example, in an automated production plant, some devices may use Profibus protocol to communicate, while others use Ethernet/IP protocol to communicate, NBTM01 module can realize the data interaction between these two kinds of devices.

Data format conversion: In addition to bus conversion, the data format is also converted. Different bus protocols may have different encoding and packaging methods for data. The NBTM01 module recognizes and converts these data formats to ensure the accuracy and integrity of data transmission between different buses. For example, the data format under the Profibus protocol is converted to a data format recognized by the Ethernet/IP protocol and vice versa.

Data transfer reliability

Data caching and buffering: In order to cope with the differences in data transfer rates between different buses, the modules are usually equipped with data caching and buffering functions. When data is transferred from a high-speed bus to a low-speed bus, the data is first stored in a buffer and then sent at the rate of the low-speed bus to avoid data loss or overflow. Similarly, in the opposite case, a smooth transfer of data is ensured. For example, the buffer function is especially important when transferring data from the high-speed Ethernet/IP bus to the relatively low-speed DeviceNet bus.

Error detection and correction: Data error detection and correction mechanisms are available. During data transmission, checksums, cyclic redundancy checksums (CRC), and other methods are used to detect whether there are errors in the data during transmission. If an error is detected, the module tries to correct it, e.g., by retransmitting the data or repairing it using error correction codes. This greatly improves the reliability of data transmission and reduces system failures due to data errors.

Ease of System Integration

Easy to configure and install: The NBTM01 module has been designed with ease of system integration in mind, and can be parameterized using simple configuration tools or software. For example, users can select the bus protocol to be converted, set the direction and rate of data transmission and other parameters through the graphical configuration interface. In terms of installation, it usually adopts standard mounting methods, such as rail mounting or panel mounting, and can be easily installed in the control cabinet.

Compatible with existing systems: It is well compatible with existing industrial automation systems. It can be used as an intermediate module to access the existing system, without the need to carry out large-scale transformation of the entire system. For example, when upgrading an old automated production line with new devices using different bus protocols, the NBTM01 module can easily integrate these new devices into the existing system.

Technical data

Bus interface parameters

Supported bus protocol types: As mentioned before, it supports a variety of common industrial bus protocols, the specific protocol support list may vary according to the product version and configuration, but generally include Profibus, Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet and other mainstream protocols.

Number and type of interfaces: There are usually several different types of bus interfaces to suit different connection needs. For example, there may be two Profibus interfaces (one for the master connection and one for the slave connection), two Ethernet/IP interfaces (including the RJ45 interface) and one DeviceNet interface (with a standard 5-pin connector), etc.

Communication rate range: The different bus interfaces have different communication rate ranges. For the Profibus interface, the communication rate is generally between 9.6Kbps - 12Mbps; the Ethernet/IP interface can support a communication rate of 10Mbps - 1000Mbps according to the network configuration; the communication rate of the DeviceNet interface is usually between 125Kbps - 500Kbps.

Data Processing Parameters

Data Cache Capacity: The size of the data cache varies depending on the module model, generally between several hundred KB and several MB. This buffer capacity can satisfy the need for temporary data storage in case of large differences in different bus rates.

Data Conversion Rate: The data conversion rate depends on the processing capability of the module and the complexity of the data, and it is generally able to complete the conversion of common data formats in milliseconds to meet the real-time requirements of industrial automation systems.

Electrical parameters

Operating voltage and power consumption: the operating voltage is generally in the range of 12V - 24V direct current (DC), this voltage range matches the common power supply in the industrial field, and it is convenient to use standard industrial power supply for power supply. Power consumption: Under normal operating conditions, power consumption is typically between a few watts and a dozen watts, depending on how busy the data transmission is and the operating status of the module.
