Basic Properties

Physical Characteristics:

Appearance and size: usually round cross-section, the outer jacket is usually made of black or grey polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or other abrasion and corrosion-resistant materials, the diameter is similar to that of common control cables to facilitate wiring and installation, and the length of 5 ft. is suitable for connecting equipment within a certain range.

Marking and Material: The cable surface is printed with clear model number ‘NKMP11-5’ and other relevant markings, such as brand and batch. The internal conductor is usually made of high quality copper with good electrical conductivity and corrosion resistance, and the insulation is often made of polyethylene and other materials to ensure the stability and safety of signal transmission.

Electrical characteristics:

Signal transmission type: mainly used for the transmission of digital signals or analogue signals, in the ABB Bailey Infi 90 system, multi-functional processors can be achieved between the redundant data transmission and interaction, to ensure that the system in the event of a failure can be automatically switched to a backup device to ensure the continuous operation of the system.

Transmission Rate and Stability: It can meet the requirements of the system on signal transmission rate, and the signal attenuation is small within the specified transmission distance, which can ensure the stability and reliability of the signal and reduce the signal distortion and BER, so as to guarantee the normal operation of the system.

Rated voltage and current: the rated voltage and current are determined according to the specific application scenarios and the load requirements of the connected equipment, and can generally meet the normal working voltage and current requirements of the equipment in the ABB Bailey Infi 90 system.

Functions and roles

Provide redundant connections: In industrial automation control systems, especially for critical multi-function processor devices, redundant cables can provide alternate communication paths. When the main communication link fails, such as cable breakage, short-circuit or electromagnetic interference, the redundant cable can quickly take over the data transmission task to ensure the continuity and reliability of the system, avoiding system downtime and production interruption caused by communication failure.

Application Fields

Industrial automation control system: such as chemical, steel, electric power, petroleum and other industries, automated production lines, process control systems, etc., used to connect the key multi-function processor equipment, to ensure the reliable operation of the system, to prevent production accidents and economic losses caused by communication failures.

Intelligent building control system: In the building automation system of large commercial buildings, hospitals, airports, etc., it is used to connect various intelligent devices and control systems, such as controllers of air-conditioning system, lighting system, security system, etc., to ensure stable operation and intelligent management of the system.

Supported ABB I/O Systems and Families

• S800 I/O, a distributed modular I/O system for communication via ModuleBus  and PROFIBUS DP. 

• S900 I/O, a remote I/O system (for hazardous areas) that can be connected to  PLCs via PROFIBUS DP. 

• S200 I/O and S200L I/O, two compatible, modular I/O systems. S200 I/O  modules can be connected via CI856 or PROFIBUS DP to PLCs. • S100 I/O, a rack-based I/O system that can be connected to PLC using the  CI856 interface module. 

• Satt I/O, makes it possible to use Satt Rack I/O (an older Satt I/O system)  connected to PLC using the CI865 communication interface.
