Description
NMPP02 Module Power Panel

ABB NMPP02 Module Power Panel

Basic Overview

Product Positioning: ABB NMPP02 Module Power Panel is a kind of modular power panel, which plays a key role in industrial automation and control systems. It is mainly used to provide a stable and reliable power supply for each module in the system, ensuring the normal operation of the whole system.

Series and compatibility: As a member of the ABB automation product family, it has good compatibility with other ABB modules and devices. It usually works with ABB controllers, I/O modules, communication modules, etc. to build a complete industrial automation control system.

Functional Features

Power supply functions

Multi-voltage outputs: A variety of different DC voltage outputs are available, such as +5V, +15V, -15V and +24V, which are common industrial DC voltages. These different voltage outputs can meet the power requirements of different types of modules in the system, such as providing the appropriate power supply for digital circuit modules that require +5V power supply, sensor or actuator modules that require +24V power supply.

Power distribution management: In addition to providing multiple voltage outputs, it also has an effective power distribution function. It can reasonably distribute the input power to each output channel to ensure that each connected module can obtain a stable power supply that meets its needs. For example, in a complex industrial automation control system, it can automatically adjust the amount of power allocated to each module according to its power consumption requirements, preventing a module from being damaged due to overloaded power supply, and also avoiding power wastage.

Protection Functions

Overcurrent Protection (OCP): When the output current exceeds the rated current, the power supply panel will automatically activate the overcurrent protection mechanism. This may include limiting the output current or temporarily cutting off the output to prevent the power panel itself and connected modules from being damaged by excessive current. For example, if a short-circuit fault occurs in one of the connected modules, resulting in a momentary increase in current, the NMPP02 Module Power Panel is able to quickly detect and take action, such as cutting off the power supply to that module, to protect other modules from being affected.

Over Voltage Protection (OVP): The over voltage protection function will be triggered in the event of an abnormally high output voltage. The internal monitoring circuitry will detect the overvoltage condition and take appropriate measures, such as stabilising the output voltage within a safe range or cutting off the output completely, to protect the connected modules from damage caused by excessive voltage. For example, when the output voltage is too high due to power fluctuation or internal circuit failure, the power panel can ensure that the connected module will not be damaged by overvoltage by adjusting the internal circuit or cutting off the output.

Short Circuit Protection (SCP): If a short circuit condition occurs at one of the outputs, the power supply panel will not be damaged by it, but will quickly cut off the current to that output. After the short-circuit condition is lifted, some power panels are able to restore normal output automatically, which greatly improves the reliability of power panels in complex industrial environments. For example, if a short circuit is accidentally caused during installation or maintenance in the field, the NMPP02 modular power supply panels can protect themselves and other modules in a timely manner and quickly restore power after the problem is solved.

Status Indicators and Monitoring Functions

Status Indicators: Several status indicators are provided to visually display the working status of the power supply panel. These indicators can show whether the power input is normal or not, whether each output voltage is normal or not, whether there are faults occurring and other information. For example, with different coloured indicators (e.g. green for normal, red for faults), maintenance personnel can quickly judge the operation of the power panel on the spot, and find out the problems and deal with them in time.

Remote monitoring interface (optional): Some models may provide a remote monitoring interface, through which the working status information of the power panel can be transmitted to a remote monitoring system. In this way, the system manager can monitor the status of the power panel, such as voltage, current, temperature and other parameters in real time in the control room or remote terminals, to detect potential problems and take measures in advance, and improve the reliability and maintainability of the system.

Technical Parameters

Electrical parameters

Input voltage range: usually has a wide input voltage range, for example, can accept 100V - 240V AC (alternating current) input voltage, frequency range is generally 50/60Hz. this wide range of input voltage adaptability makes it possible to work normally in different countries and regions under the conditions of the power grid, reducing the risk of equipment failure due to fluctuations in power grid voltage.

Output Voltage Accuracy: The output of various DC voltages has high accuracy, with the error range generally between ±1% - ±3%. This is very important for industrial modules (such as high-precision sensors, precision controllers, etc.) that require precise voltage supply to ensure that these modules operate accurately at the rated voltage.

Output Current and Power: Different output channels have different current and power output ratings. For example, for a +24V output channel, the current rating may vary from 2A - 5A, and the corresponding output power can be calculated based on P = UI (P is power, U is voltage, and I is current). This makes it possible to provide sufficient power for several modules with different power requirements.

Mechanical parameters

Dimensions and mounting: It is designed with compact dimensions for easy mounting in control cabinets or distribution boxes. Its exact dimensions may vary according to different product specifications, but space-saving factors are generally taken into account. The mounting method is usually flexible, and the common ones are rail mounted (e.g. DIN rail mounting) or screwed to the mounting plate, which is convenient for users to choose according to the actual situation.

Weight: Light weight, easy to install and carry. Specific weight varies by model, generally between 1kg - 3kg.
