Description
NSIM01 Serial Interface Module

ABB NSIM01 Serial Interface Module

Features

Interface Versatility

Multiple serial interface support: There are many common serial interface types, such as RS-232, RS-485 and RS-422. RS-232 interface is suitable for short distance (generally less than 15 metres), one-to-one simple device connection, such as connecting computers to small controllers for debugging and other operations, while RS-485 and RS-422 interfaces are suitable for long-distance communication (RS-485 can theoretically reach up to about 1200 metres) and multi-device connection, enabling the construction of distributed industrial communication networks, such as connecting multiple remote sensors or actuators. The RS-485 and RS-422 interfaces are suitable for long-distance communication (theoretically up to about 1200 metres) and multi-device connections, enabling the construction of distributed industrial communication networks, e.g. for connecting several remote sensors or actuators.

Adaptation of communication protocols: It can be adapted to a variety of serial communication protocols, including but not limited to Modbus RTU, ASCII, etc. This makes it possible to work with different manufacturers' products. This makes it possible to communicate with devices produced by different manufacturers that follow these protocols, which enhances the compatibility and openness of the system and facilitates users to carry out system integration based on existing devices.

Powerful communication function

Flexibility in data transmission: It supports full-duplex and half-duplex communication modes. In full-duplex mode, data can be transmitted in both directions at the same time, which is suitable for scenes with high real-time requirements and frequent data interaction between the two sides of the communication, such as the communication between the host computer and intelligent devices with real-time feedback functions; in half-duplex mode, data can only be transmitted in one direction at a certain moment, which is suitable for occasions that do not have extremely high requirements for communication efficiency, such as simple command transmission and status feedback. Half-duplex mode

Configurable communication parameters: Users can configure the baud rate, data bits, stop bits, parity bits and other parameters flexibly. The baud rate range is usually wide, e.g. from 1200bps to 115200bps, so that the communication parameters can be adjusted according to the actual communication distance, equipment performance and data transmission requirements to optimise the communication effect.

Outstanding data processing capabilities

Data cache and buffer: An internal data cache is provided for temporary storage of received and to-be-sent data. The size of the cache varies according to the specific design, but it can generally meet a certain amount of data temporary storage requirements, for example, in the case of busy communication or slow processing speed of the receiver, the cache can effectively avoid data loss and ensure the integrity and continuity of the data.

Data Conversion Function: It can perform data format conversion, such as converting data in different coding formats (e.g. ASCII code and hexadecimal code) between different devices, so that they can communicate with each other correctly in the system. At the same time, it can also perform simple pre-processing of data, such as data verification, error correction and other operations to improve the accuracy of data transmission.

High reliability and stability

Anti-interference design: Anti-interference measures are adopted in the hardware design, such as the use of shielded wires to connect interfaces, reasonable grounding design, etc., in order to reduce the impact of electromagnetic interference on communication in the industrial environment. At the same time, the software level also has a certain error correction and retransmission mechanism, when the data transmission error is detected, it can automatically request to resend to ensure the reliability of data transmission.

Strong work stability: able to work stably for a long time in a harsh industrial environment. Its working temperature range is generally wider, such as - 20 ℃ - + 70 ℃, and in the relative humidity changes (such as 5% - 95%) can also operate normally, in addition to a certain level of protection, such as IP20 or higher, can effectively prevent the intrusion of foreign objects and accidental damage caused by contact.

Technical data

Electrical parameters

Working voltage range: usually working at a certain DC voltage range, such as 18 - 30V DC, such a voltage range can adapt to most of the industrial site power supply situation, to ensure stable operation of the module.

Power consumption: the size of the power consumption is related to the working state, in the normal communication and data processing process, the power consumption is generally between a few watts to more than ten watts, and under different communication loads can reasonably control the power consumption, to ensure the long-term reliable use in industrial environments.

Communication parameters

Interface Electrical Characteristics: Different serial interfaces have their own specific electrical characteristics; RS-232 interfaces generally have signal levels between -3V and +3V, RS-485 and RS-422 interfaces use differential signals with levels ranging from -7V to +7V, which ensures the correct transmission and reception of signals. The input and output impedances of the interfaces are also designed accordingly to ensure signal matching and transmission efficiency.

Communication rate range: Baud rates can be flexibly configured from 1200bps - 115200bps. Different baud rates are suitable for different communication scenarios. Lower baud rates are suitable for long-distance communication or for connecting devices that do not require high data transmission speeds, while higher baud rates are used for short distances and the need to quickly transmit large amounts of data.

Maximum number of connected devices: For RS-485 and RS-422 interfaces, the maximum number of connected devices is generally between 32 and 256, depending on the communication distance, electrical characteristics of the devices and other factors, which makes it possible to build a large-scale serial communication network.
