ABB 23BA23 Command output monitoring

Product Overview

The ABB 23BA23 board for the remote terminal unit RTU560 is primarily used to check the output circuits of object commands before issuing the actual command. It carries out an ‘n select 1’ check, i.e. it checks whether only one intermediate relay is activated in the output circuit. This function ensures the stability and safety of the power system.

Main functions

‘n select 1’ check:

Checks whether only one intermediate relay is activated in the output circuit.

This function is realised when all mutually exclusive relays connected to a check circuit have the same resistance value.

Dual check circuit:

Allows the use of two separate check circuits to check two different types of interlocking relays.

The tolerance range provided is defined by the parameters.

Resistance value measurement and comparison:

Measures the resistance value in the output circuit during an ‘n select 1’ check.

The measured resistance value is compared with the configured upper and lower limits.

If the resistance value is within the limits, the selected interlock relay is activated and the object command is confirmed.

If the measured resistance value is outside the permissible range, the output is blocked and an error is displayed to the CMU (communication unit).

Galvanic isolation and line frequency suppression:

The check circuit for measuring relay coil resistance is galvanically isolated from the electronic voltage and the switching voltage of the interlock relay.

Galvanic isolation is achieved by means of galvanic isolated DC/DC converters and optocouplers.

No auxiliary test voltages are required.

The line frequency ripple voltage is filtered by an A/D converter.

Monitoring and diagnostic functions:

Output duration is monitored and reset in the event of a fault.

Monitor switching voltage before and during command output.

Suppresses switching voltage switching by pressing the LOCAL key for easy diagnostics.

Applications and Compatibility

Applications:

Mainly used in RTU560 remote terminal equipment as a command output monitoring module.

Compatibility:

In RTU560 systems, it is functionally and pin-compatible with the 23BA22 board.

Up to 16 23BA23 boards can be used in one RTU560.
