ABB DSTD108 Industrial automation components
ABB DSTD108 Industrial automation components
Basic Information
Brand: ABB
Place of origin: Switzerland
Applications and Functions
DSTD108 is usually used in the field of industrial automation control as part of a DCS (Distributed Control System) or PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) system. It may contain a CPU, communication module, power supply module, and a range of accessories with a variety of communication functions, support for redundant configurations, and the ability to handle a wide range of I/O signals, including intrinsically safe signals in hazardous areas.
CPU Features
There may be several classes of CPUs in the DSTD108 system, such as PM571, PM581, PM582, PM590 and PM591.
These different classes of CPUs can all be programmed with the same programming software, which supports multiple programming languages.
The CPUs usually have an LCD display, operation buttons, SD card expansion port and two integrated serial communication ports.
The CPU can be plugged directly into a CPU backplane, which optionally has an integrated Ethernet or ARCNET network interface.
In addition to the integrated communication functions on the CPU, up to four communication expansion interface modules are supported, and these interfaces can be expanded to any standard bus protocol module.
Input/output modules
There are two types of input/output modules: analogue and switching.
Each input/output module can be directly plugged into the terminal board, or through the FBP distributed expansion of the sub-station to connect.
Up to a certain number of I/O modules can be expanded locally at the CPU (the exact number depends on the firmware version), and the distributed sub-station can also be expanded with several I/O modules.
These modules contain input/output configurable module types for user flexibility.
Other Features
The DSTD108 modules may have pre-wiring features to provide user convenience in the absence of input/output modules.
The base plate is divided into two different voltage levels, 24VDC and 230VAC, and the wiring method is available in both screw and spring options.
The module may integrate a certain number of switching inputs/outputs with a neutral bus interface function for communication with the CPU and distributed I/O expansion via an optional FBP bus adapter.
Engineering Environment
• Diagram Editor with Function Diagram - Diagram is a new graphical language that graphically interconnects functions, function blocks, control modules and embedded ST and SFC code blocks on the same page.
• Search and Navigation - Communication variable references from other projects within the same system do now appear as references, if the projects are downloaded.
• Task Analysis Tool - The task analysis tool in Control Builder has been made more easy to use. The meaning of the different messages is now more precise. Time stamps have been added to the warning and error messages in the summery view of the Task Analysis tool, this makes it easier to relate between the messages and the graph.
• Display of Unit Specific System Alarm and Event Generation - There is a new menu entry in Control Builder on hardware types called Unit Specific System Alarm and Events. It brings up a new user interface that shows what system alarms and events a unit can generate. The information is shown in Control Builder rather than being printed in a user manual.
• Heap Utilization Dialog Available in Online Mode - The controller heap utilization dialog in Control Builder is now available also in online mode.
• Additional Caution Dialog at Download with Init Restart - An additional caution dialog is shown before download of changes in case the user or the system suggested an init restart (i.e. loss of all cold retained values).
• Compiler Warning in case Data Type used for IAC has been changed If the user changes a structured data type used for communication variables, then the receiving controller will get ISP until both server and client have been downloaded to. With this new version, the user gets to know in advance in case a download of changes includes changed data types that will cause ISP on any communication variable.
