Basic Introduction

Module Overview: ABB NLSM02 Loop Storage Module is an important module in ABB automation control systems, mainly used for data storage and management related functions. It plays the role of storing process data, configuration parameters and other key information in the system to support stable operation and data processing.

Affiliations and compatibility: This module is usually part of a specific ABB control system (e.g. Infi 90 or Net 90 system) and has good compatibility with other modules in the same series (e.g. controllers, I/O modules, communication modules, etc.) and is able to work together in order to realise complete industrial automation control and data management functions.

Data storage function

Large-capacity storage: With a considerable capacity of storage media, it can store a large amount of process data and system parameters. For example, it can store thousands of control loop setpoints, process variables, alarm thresholds, and other information that are critical to the monitoring and control of industrial processes. Multiple data types support: It can store multiple data types, including but not limited to analogue data (e.g., data collected by sensors such as temperature, pressure, flow, etc.), digital data (e.g., switching status of equipment, fault signals, etc.), and character-based data (e.g., equipment identification, operation records, etc.). This makes it adaptable to the data storage needs in different industrial application scenarios.

Data Management Functions

Data organisation and indexing: Effective organisation and indexing of stored data for fast access and retrieval. With a reasonable storage structure and indexing mechanism, it is possible to locate the required data in a short period of time. For example, in a large-scale automated factory, when it is necessary to query the operation data of a specific device in a specific time period, it is possible to quickly find the relevant data through its efficient indexing system and improve the response speed of the system.

Data Backup and Recovery: Provides data backup and recovery functions to ensure data security and reliability. Data can be backed up at predetermined time intervals or event-triggered conditions, and the backup data is stored on secure media (e.g., external hard discs, magnetic tapes, etc.). In the event of data loss, system failure, etc., data can be quickly restored from the backup, reducing data loss and system downtime.

Collaborative working function with the system

Real-time data interaction: real-time data interaction with other modules in the system (such as controllers and I/O modules). It can receive data related to control instructions from the controller and store the corresponding execution results; it can also provide the stored set values, historical data, etc. to the controller for calculation and decision-making of the control algorithm. For example, in a temperature control system, data collected by a temperature sensor is stored in a module, and a set temperature target value is provided to the controller for precise control of heating or cooling equipment.

System Configuration Support: Stores the configuration parameters of the system, including network configuration, module connection relationship, user rights and other information. These parameters can be quickly loaded during system startup or reconfiguration to ensure that the system operates according to the intended configuration. For example, when a new I/O module is added to the system, its configuration information (e.g., module address, communication parameters, etc.) is stored in the NLSM02 module, making it easy for the system to identify and configure the new module.

For example, when reading the historical data of multiple control loops for analysis, its fast reading speed can ensure the timely acquisition of data.

Interface Features

Communication interface type: Equipped with various communication interfaces, such as Ethernet interface and serial interface (RS-232, RS-485, etc.). The Ethernet interface is used for high-speed data transmission and communication with the host computer system and other network devices; the serial interface can be used for connecting some specific devices or for simple debugging communication.
