ABB COM0002 Industrial Communication Module

Core attributes

Product type: Industrial grade multi protocol communication conversion module (belonging to ABB industrial communication series, focusing on data exchange and compatibility between different devices and protocols in industrial control systems, adapted to communication networking requirements in distributed control scenarios)

Model identification: COM0002 ("COM" is the communication series code, "0002" is the specification code, representing the basic multi protocol conversion function, focusing on the communication connection of small and medium-sized systems)

Physical specifications: Designed with DIN rail installation, the dimensions are 75mm (width) x 100mm (height) x 120mm (depth), with a net weight of 0.4kg. It is suitable for compact layout of industrial control cabinets and can be installed in conjunction with ABB TAS series control modules and SD series power modules, saving space.

Key electrical and performance parameters

Power supply demand

DC 24V ± 15%, rated power consumption 8W, maximum power consumption 12W (during full load communication)

Compatible with ABB SD800 series regulated power supply, it is recommended to reserve 20% power margin to avoid power supply fluctuations affecting communication stability

Communication interface configuration

2 Ethernet interfaces (10/100Mbps adaptive, RJ45 interface), 2 RS485 interfaces (half duplex, supporting differential transmission), 1 Profibus DP interface (slave mode, compatible with Profibus DP V1 protocol)

Covering commonly used communication interface types in industry, it can simultaneously connect Ethernet devices, serial devices, and Profibus devices to achieve multi protocol data conversion

Support protocol types

Ethernet side: Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, ABB dedicated industrial Ethernet protocol; RS485 side: Modbus RTU (master/slave mode optional); Profibus DP side: Profibus DP V1 protocol

Compatible with mainstream industrial communication protocols, it can achieve transparent data transmission between different protocol devices without the need for additional protocol conversion programs

Data processing capability

32-bit communication processor, data forwarding rate ≤ 10ms (Ethernet serial port), ≤ 15ms (Ethernet Profibus DP), maximum simultaneous connection of 32 devices (16 Ethernet+10 serial ports+6 Profibus)

Meet the real-time data exchange needs of small and medium-sized industrial systems, with low data latency, ensuring efficient transmission of control instructions and collected data

Working environment

Temperature -20 ℃ to+60 ℃, humidity 5% -95% (no condensation), protection level IP20 (module body), anti electromagnetic interference level IEC 61000-6-2 (level 3)

To adapt to the common high and low temperature, high humidity environment in industrial sites, it needs to be installed in a closed control cabinet to avoid direct contact between dust and water vapor

Core functions and technological advantages

1. Multi protocol transparent conversion capability

Cross protocol data exchange: Supports any protocol conversion between Ethernet, RS485, and Profibus DP interfaces, such as converting Modbus RTU sensor data to Modbus TCP protocol and uploading it to the upper computer, or converting EtherNet/IP control instructions to Profibus DP protocol and sending them to the actuator, achieving seamless dialogue between devices with different protocols without modifying the original communication configuration of the device.

Flexible configuration of protocol parameters: Through the built-in web management interface of the module or ABB dedicated configuration software (such as ABB Communication Configurator), the protocol parameters of each interface can be customized (such as Modbus RTU baud rate, data bits, stop bits, Modbus TCP port numbers). It supports 16 sets of custom data mapping tables and can filter the data points to be transmitted as needed, reducing the bandwidth occupied by invalid data.

Data caching and resending mechanism: Built in 8MB data cache area. When the network is temporarily interrupted (≤ 30s), critical data can be cached and automatically resent after communication is restored to avoid data loss; Support data priority setting, control instruction class data priority transmission, ensuring uninterrupted control process.

2. High reliability and network adaptability

Fault self diagnosis and alarm: Real time monitoring of the status of various communication interfaces (such as Ethernet links, RS485 buses, Profibus DP connections). When interface faults, protocol mismatches, data transmission timeouts, and other issues occur, red fault indicator lights and web interface alarms are triggered, and fault codes can be sent to the upper computer through RS485 or Ethernet interfaces for quick problem location (such as Ethernet interface fault code "E01", RS485 bus fault code "S02").

Anti interference and stability optimization: The RS485 interface has photoelectric isolation (isolation voltage ≥ 2500V AC) and surge protection (10/700 μ s surge current 2kV) functions, which can resist electromagnetic interference generated by motor start stop and frequency converter operation in industrial sites; The Ethernet interface supports link aggregation (optional), and when the main link fails, the backup link automatically switches (switching time ≤ 50ms) to improve network reliability.

Compatible with old and new devices: Supports simultaneous communication with old serial devices (such as traditional Modbus RTU sensors and instruments) and new Ethernet devices (such as ABB 800xA controllers and third-party Ethernet/IP PLCs), solving the pain point of "incompatibility between new and old devices" in industrial system upgrades and reducing equipment replacement costs.

3. Lightweight deployment and ease of use

Plug and play and quick configuration: The module defaults to basic communication parameters (such as Modbus RTU 9600bps, Modbus TCP 502 port) at the factory, and basic data conversion can be achieved with simple wiring; Advanced configuration can be completed through the web management interface (supporting browser access without the need to install specialized software), with a visualized configuration process, making it easy for beginners to get started quickly.

Remote monitoring and maintenance: Supports remote access through Ethernet interface (requires fixed IP and port mapping configuration), and operation and maintenance personnel can remotely view module operation status (such as interface connection number, data transmission rate, fault records) and modify communication parameters in the office, without the need for on-site operation, reducing operation and maintenance costs and time.

Modular expansion: Reserve one expansion interface, which can be equipped with wireless communication modules (such as 4G LTE, Wi Fi modules, ABB compatible models need to be selected) according to needs, to achieve wireless data transmission and adapt to scenarios where wiring is inconvenient (such as outdoor water treatment equipment, mobile production units).
