Product core positioning

Product type: Small and medium-sized industrial process control module (belonging to ABB R series, focusing on the mid-range control needs of discrete manufacturing and process industry, with signal acquisition, logical operation and closed-loop control capabilities, suitable for small and medium-sized automation system nodes)

Model identification: R-2521Z ("R" is the series code, representing reliability first design; 2521 "is a specification code that distinguishes between I/O configuration and processing performance; Z "represents the enhanced anti-interference version, suitable for complex electromagnetic environments

Physical specifications: Designed with a combination of DIN rails and panels, the dimensions are 60mm (width) x 120mm (height) x 110mm (depth), with a net weight of 0.5kg. It is compatible with compact industrial control cabinets and can be installed adjacent to ABB SD series power modules and COM series communication modules, simplifying wiring.

Key electrical and performance parameters

Power supply demand

DC 24V ± 10%, rated power consumption 9W, maximum power consumption 13W (when I/O is fully loaded)

Compatible with industrial power supplies such as ABB SD821, it is recommended to use power redundancy units (such as SS82x series) to cope with the risk of power interruption in critical scenarios

Control signal interface

8 analog inputs (AI, 4-20mA/0-5V optional, 16 bit resolution), 4 analog outputs (AO, 4-20mA, accuracy ± 0.1%), 12 digital inputs (DI, 24V DC, optoelectronic isolation, response time ≤ 1ms), 6 digital outputs (DO, 24V DC/3A, relay output)

Covering mainstream industrial signal types, the AI channel supports hardware filtering, and the DI channel has high-speed response to meet the control needs of small and medium-sized equipment

Processing performance

32-bit ARM processor, operating speed of 80 MIPS, program storage capacity of 16MB (Flash), data storage capacity of 8MB (RAM)

Supports 4 independent PID control loops and can run IEC 61131-3 standard programs such as ladder diagram (LD) and functional block diagram (FBD) to meet the complexity of mid-range control

Communication interface

1 Ethernet (TCP/IP) interface (supporting Modbus TCP), 1 RS485 interface (supporting Modbus RTU master/slave mode)

Simplify communication configuration, adapt to local and remote data exchange of small and medium-sized systems, and expand protocols such as Profibus DP through communication modules

Working environment

Temperature -30 ℃ to+70 ℃, humidity 5% -95% (no condensation), protection level IP20 (module body), anti electromagnetic interference level IEC 61000-6-2 (level 4)

Enhanced environmental adaptability, capable of withstanding low and high temperatures as well as strong electromagnetic interference, suitable for harsh scenarios such as outdoor auxiliary equipment and heavy industry workshops

Core functions and technological advantages

1. Balanced control and signal processing capability

Multi scenario control algorithm: Built in standard PID, proportional control (P), proportional integral control (PI) algorithms, PID control cycle can be as low as 100ms, control accuracy error ≤ 0.2%, suitable for stable adjustment of temperature, pressure, flow and other parameters, such as small heating furnace temperature control (AI collects furnace temperature, AO adjusts heating power), tank liquid level control (DI monitors high and low liquid levels, DO controls inlet/outlet valves).

Signal anti-interference optimization: The AI channel adopts differential input design, combined with 50Hz/60Hz power frequency filtering, which can suppress power grid harmonics and motor start stop interference; The DI channel is equipped with 2500V AC photoelectric isolation to avoid the impact of external circuit faults on the module and ensure the accuracy of signal acquisition, especially suitable for signal acquisition of peripheral equipment of frequency converters.

Logic control flexibility: Supports 128 intermediate relays, 64 timers and counters, and can write complex interlocking logic (such as equipment start stop sequence control, fault interlock shutdown) without the need for additional logic modules, meeting the needs of discrete manufacturing scenarios (such as assembly line process control).

2. High reliability and environmental adaptability

Fault self diagnosis and protection: Real time monitoring of module power supply, CPU operation, I/O channel status. When faults such as power supply overvoltage/undervoltage, I/O channel short circuit, communication interruption, etc. occur, alarm information (such as power supply fault code "P01", AI channel fault code "A03") is sent to the upper computer through a yellow fault indicator light and communication protocol. At the same time, dangerous outputs (such as DO channel cut-off) are locked to ensure equipment safety.

Wide temperature and anti vibration design: using industrial grade components and wide temperature solder process, it can start normally in a low temperature environment of -30 ℃ and operate stably in a high temperature environment of+70 ℃; The anti vibration level complies with IEC 60068-2-6 (10-500Hz, 5g) and is suitable for installation scenarios near vibration sources such as fans and pump sets, reducing the impact of mechanical vibration on the module.

Power outage data security: The program storage is based on Flash chips, and the data storage is equipped with supercapacitors (which can hold critical data for 48 hours after a power outage). After power is restored, historical parameters and control programs are automatically loaded without the need for manual reconfiguration, avoiding production interruptions caused by unexpected power outages.

3. Lightweight deployment and ease of use

Quick configuration and debugging: Supports programming through ABB Control Studio simplified version software (compatible with Windows 10/11 system), with commonly used control templates built-in in the software (such as single loop PID, liquid level control logic), and drag and drop programming to lower the operating threshold; During debugging, I/O values and CPU usage can be monitored in real-time through software, and online parameter modification (such as PID gain) is supported without the need for power outages or restarts.

Local status visualization: The module panel is equipped with 4 status indicator lights (power, operation, communication, fault) and 2 buttons (manual/automatic switching, fault reset). Operations personnel can intuitively judge the working status of the module and quickly handle simple faults on site (such as manual reset and temporary alarm), reducing dependence on the upper computer.

Compatible expansion design: Reserve one I/O expansion interface, which can be externally connected to ABB AI-201 (4-channel AI expansion module) and DO-201 (4-channel DO expansion module), flexibly expanding the number of I/O points; Support linkage with ABB COM0002 communication module, expand protocols such as Profibus DP and EtherNet/IP, and adapt to system upgrade requirements in the later stage.
