ABOUT THE UR8CH

General Electric Multilin’s UR-8CH is a CT/VT Module designed for installation in the Universal Relays as a replacement or upgrade in the system. This module provides the relay with 3-1A/5A phase CTs and 1/5A ground CTs. 

In addition to providing data on the power system, current transformers are able to isolate the system from extreme currents and voltages, prolonging system life and reducing general maintenance costs. Additionally, current transformers provide standardized output voltages, cutting out the need for additional auxiliary protection. Voltage transformers also increase user safety and can reliably measure power system voltages. 

Functional characteristics

Current and Voltage Transformers:

This module provides 3-1A/5A phase current transformers and 1/5A ground current transformers for relays.

The current transformers are able to reduce the current value of the power system to a range that can be recognised and regulated by the relay, while providing a standardised output voltage without the need for additional auxiliary protection.

Voltage transformers, on the other hand, are used to measure the voltage of the power system and reduce the voltage value to a manageable level.

Data isolation and protection:

In addition to providing data on the power system, current transformers are able to isolate the system from extreme currents and voltages, thereby extending system life and reducing general maintenance costs.

Voltage transformers also improve user safety.

Highly modifiable CT/VT settings:

Unique protection schemes such as differential protection, concurrent phase splitting protection, etc. can be created on demand, increasing the versatility of the module.

Enhanced diagnostic functions:

Some versions of the UR8CH module have an enhanced diagnostic function that verifies the integrity of the analogue signals, using advanced algorithms to ensure reliability.

This feature, combined with the UR Relay's health diagnostics, provides a two-tiered assessment to ensure that components are functioning properly.

Applications and Compatibility

Range of Applications:

The UR8CH CT/VT Module is suitable for a variety of power system application scenarios that require current and voltage measurements.

Compatibility:

The module is compatible with the Universal Relay family and can be managed and programmed through the EnerVista lauchpad software package.

Firmware versions may affect the compatibility of the CT/VT module and CPU within a particular relay. For example, compatibility with hardware can be achieved using firmware version 4.0x and higher.

Precautions and Maintenance

Installation and Connection:

Before making relay connections, the user should carefully read the Universal Relay manual to ensure proper installation and connections.

Connections to relay terminals rated at 1A or 5A must match the secondary rating of the connected current transformer to avoid system damage.

Maintenance and Upgrades:

Regular inspection and maintenance of the CT/VT module will ensure proper operation and prolong its life.
