Advantest D3186 Pulse Pattern Generator
Advantest D3186 Pulse Pattern Generator
Basic Overview
The Advantest D3186 is a pulse pattern generator designed for high-speed, high-precision testing needs. It is capable of generating multiple types of patterns, including pseudo-random (PRBS) patterns, programmable (WORD) patterns, and frame patterns for SDH or SONET structures, etc., at speeds ranging from 150 Mb/s to 12 Gb/s, to meet the needs of different test scenarios.
Features
D3186 Pulse Pattern Generator
Excellent waveform quality
Generation of SDH/SONET frame patterns (mixed patterns) which are close to actual data
8 M-bit memory, 31 stages for PRBS
Multi-channel output : 2 data channels, 3 clock channels, and 7 sub-rate channels
Cross point variable for output waveform
Burst signal output
73 Vp-p outputs, effective for EA modulators, etc. (option)
Main Functions and Features
Code Pattern Generation Capability:
7 types of pseudo-random (PRBS) code patterns from 27-1 to 231-1 can be generated.
Programmable (WORD) code patterns up to 8M bits.
Supports frame code patterns for SDH or SONET structures.
High-precision clock generator:
Built-in high-precision synthetic clock generator providing 16 types of frequency memories for fast frequency setting.
For PRBS mode, the marker ratio can be changed between 8 values.
Multi-mode & Flexibility:
ALTERNATE mode is available, and you can switch between WORD and FRAME modes to perform measurements.
Differential data output, differential clock output, and fixed-amplitude clock output are provided to support a wide range of application types.
High accuracy and stability:
Frequency setting resolution is up to 1 kHz, and frequency stability is ±10 ppm/year.
Frequency accuracy of 0.01% ensures the accuracy of test results.
Remote Control and Storage Function:
Supports GPIB (IEEE 488-1978) interface for complete remote control, making it easy to build measurement and test systems.
Built-in floppy disk drive for storing and recalling the contents of set conditions and mode settings.
Other features:
Supports burst signal output and fibre optic loop testing.
Equipped with a motor-driven delay block, the phase of the clock output can be varied in steps of 1 ps resolution up to ±400 ps.
When used in combination with the D3286 BER detector, the master-slave function interlocks their modes to build systems for evaluating the BER of ultra-high-speed optical communication equipment and compound semiconductors.

Precautions for use
Avoid using the D3186 in dusty areas or where the unit is exposed to direct sunlight or where corrosive gases are generated.
Always use the D3186 where the ambient temperature is 0 to 40 degrees Celsius and the relative humidity is 40% to 85%.
Excessive mechanical shock to the D3186 should be avoided.
Since the D3186 has an exhaust cooling fan, always leave a space of 10 cm or more between the rear panel and the wall and avoid blocking the air intake holes on both sides of the D3186.
