FOXBORO FBM242 P0916TA Discrete Output Module

INTRODUCTION

The FBM242 Discrete Output Module contains 16 discrete output channels, which are sourced externally, rated up to 2 A at 60 V dc. Associated termination assemblies (TAs) provide for discrete outputs to loads of 2 A at 60 V dc, relay outputs (120 V ac/125 V dc, or 240 V ac), or relay outputs with power distribution and fusing. Each output is fully isolated from other channels and ground. The module interfaces electrical output signals from a control processor to the field devices. It executes a digital I/O application program, with ladder logic support, and provides a Fail-Safe Configuration option for the outputs.

FEATURES

Key features of the FBM242 modules are: 

  Sixteen discrete outputs 

  Supports discrete output signals at voltages of: 

 • 15 to 60 V dc 

 • 120Vac/125 V dc 

 • 240Vac 

 Each input and output is galvanically isolated; group isolated when used with external excitation 

 Rugged design suitable for enclosure in Class G3 (harsh) environments

 Executes the Discrete I/O or Ladder Logic program, with the following configurable options: Input Filter Time, Fail Safe Configuration, Fail Safe Fall-Back, and Sustained or Momentary Outputs 

 Various Termination Assemblies (TAs) that contain: 

 • Current limiting devices 

 • Fuses 

 • Relay outputs with external power source, fusing, and power distribution 

 • Solid state outputs 

 • Redundant power distribution.

STANDARD DESIGN

The module has a rugged extruded aluminum exterior for physical protection of the circuits. Enclosures specially designed for mounting the FBMs provide various levels of environmental protection, up to harsh environments (Class G3), per ISA Standard S71.04

VISUAL INDICATORS

Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) incorporated into the front of the module provide visual indication of the module operational status, as well as the discrete states of the individual output points.

EASY REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT

The module can be removed/replaced without removing field device termination cabling, power, or communication cabling.

Discrete Output Channels:

The FBM242 module contains 16 discrete output channels that are externally sourced.

Each output channel is rated up to 2A at 60V DC, providing enough drive to control field devices.

Voltage and Current Support:

The module supports discrete output signals in the 15 to 60V DC voltage range.

For load current, up to 2.25A per channel ensures stable control of field devices.

Electrical Isolation:

Each input and output is electrically isolated to ensure the stability and safety of the module in complex industrial environments.

When used with external excitation, the group isolation feature further enhances the module's anti-interference capability.

Fail-Safe Configuration:

The FBM242 module provides a fail-safe configuration option that allows the module to automatically switch to a safe state when it detects a fault, avoiding damage to field equipment.

Rugged design:

The module features a rugged design for enclosures in class G3 (harsh) environments, ensuring stable operation for long periods of time in harsh industrial environments.

Configurable Options:

Users can configure parameters such as input filter time, fail-safe configuration, fail-safe fallback, and continuous or instantaneous outputs according to actual requirements.

Terminal Assembly (TA):

Associated Terminal Assemblies (TAs) provide discrete outputs to 2A 60V DC loads, relay outputs (120V AC/125V DC or 240V AC), or relay outputs with power distribution and fuses.

Communication and Connectivity:

The FBM242 P0916TA module supports redundant 2 Mbps fieldbus connections to ensure reliable communication with the control system.

It can connect up to 64 single-port field devices to Ethernet for efficient data transfer.
