What's with the power glass?

01 Photovoltaic glass and power generation glass

The so-called photovoltaic glass is a matching glass product used to make photovoltaic cell modules.

Of course, glass can not directly generate electricity, photovoltaic glass is the same.

Therefore, from a conceptual point of view, photovoltaic glass refers to a photovoltaic module of the main raw material, a low-iron glass; The power generation glass refers to the photovoltaic glass that has been added to the components such as a power generation film or a power generation silicon panel.

Therefore, we can understand here that photovoltaic glass can not generate electricity, after all, a glass is not so high-end to generate electricity.

What are the components of photovoltaic glass? Roughly as follows:

(1) Silicon raw materials

Silicon material, silicon ingot/silicon block/silicon rod, silicon wafer, recycled raw materials, other raw materials

(2) photovoltaic related parts

Battery, charger, controller, recorder, inverter, monitor, bracket system, tracking system, other parts

(3) Silicon rod silicon ingot production equipment

A full set of production line equipment, ingot/directional solidification, crucible equipment, production furnace equipment, other battery production equipment

Complete production line, etching equipment, cleaning equipment, diffusion furnace, laminating equipment/deposition furnace, screen printing machine, tester and sorter, other related equipment

Thin-film battery production equipment, usually such a power generation principle:

Dye Minhua battery DSSC, CDTe thin film battery CDTE, copper indium Gallium diselenide battery CIS/CIGS, amorphous silicon battery equipment. Among them, the cadmium telluride thin film battery is relatively mature in China, and the photoelectric conversion efficiency is high.

(4) Components/power generation systems

Battery, panel, encapsulation film, encapsulation battery, crucible, graphite, slurry, power generation system, etc

Photovoltaic glass can not generate electricity, need various components to cooperate in order to play a role in power generation.

02 When we talk about the concept of "power glass", what are we actually talking about?

Therefore, when we habitually, or are misled by people after the so-called power generation glass, in fact, it is the photovoltaic glass products with crystalline silicon cells or thin film cells.

Therefore, strictly speaking, there is no so-called "power glass" at present.

Taking cadmium telluride power glass as an example, it is in ordinary insulating glass coated with a layer of 4 micron thickness cadmium telluride photoelectric material, equivalent to one hundredth of the diameter of a human hair, these coatings are actually a lot of series together amorphous silicon thin film solar cells, and the relationship with sunlight is simply explained to be equivalent to rechargeable batteries and alternating current for charging. The coating is like the rechargeable battery we usually use, and the sunlight is like the alternating current to charge the battery, and when the sunlight hits the "power glass", the glass will start to generate electricity. This is the same reason that after plugging in the power source, the rechargeable battery begins to charge.

Of course, the power generation glass made by crystalline silicon cells is also a similar power generation principle. But because crystalline silicon batteries can't be made so small and ultra-thin, they will be a little cumbersome.

However, standing in the mainstream, the current so-called power generation glass is a product series based on crystalline silicon cells and with double glass components as the core. Cadmium telluride power generation glass, domestic mature enterprises are not many, only a few products such as Longyan Energy launched to enter the market.

From the maturity of the product series and the market share, crystalline silicon materials based module products, probably occupy more than 85% of the photovoltaic market, while cadmium telluride and other thin film battery modules, the market share of no more than 15%.

What is the photoelectric conversion efficiency of the power generation glass?

To a single piece of 1.6 meters long ×1.2 meters wide "power glass" to calculate, its photoelectric conversion efficiency can reach 17.8%, a year can produce 240 to 270 degrees of electricity, the average rural family as long as 4-5 pieces of such "power glass", the electricity generated can basically meet the electricity of a family for a year.
