Using chemical science and technology to benefit human society -- the development and leap of the centennial of the founding of Chemical Society of China

Striving to achieve carbon peak before 2030 and carbon neutrality before 2060 - this major strategic decision of China is the initiative to seek change and adapt to the new development stage to promote "high-quality development". As an important foundation and pillar industry of the national economy, the chemical industry is also an important support for promoting the sustainable development of human society.

On April 23, the 100th anniversary of the Chemical Industry Society of China was celebrated. A number of academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering attended the conference to celebrate the centennial anniversary of the society.

Academician Dai Houliang, chairman of China Chemical Society, chairman of China National Petroleum Corporation Limited and Secretary of the Party Group, said that in the past 100 years, with the pace of national independence, people's liberation and national prosperity, China's chemical industry has grown from nothing, from weak to strong, the industrial scale has continued to expand, economic benefits have significantly improved, and the technical level has ranked among the world's advanced ranks. It has gradually grown into an important force for promoting the country's economic and social development. China Chemical Industry Society has become a witness, participant and promoter of the development of China's chemical industry and chemical science and technology in the past century, and will build a first-class science and technology society with Chinese characteristics in the new era in the future.

The theme of this memorial conference is "Build strong original heart, bravely shoulder the mission, continuous development". Over the past 100 years, China's chemical industry has gone through a difficult period of survival. A hundred years of chemical industry has created chemical industrialists and scientists represented by Fan Xudong, Wu Yunchu, Hou Debong, Min Enze, etc. In the hundred-year struggle of the development and expansion of China's chemical industry, the Chemical Industry Society of China and the chemical science and technology workers represented by it have played an important role, and made outstanding contributions to the development of China's chemical science and technology innovation and the take-off of chemical industry.

In order to commemorate the chemical ancestors and outstanding figures who have made outstanding contributions to China's chemical industry in different historical periods, and carry forward their patriotic, innovative, hard work and dedication of scientists, the Chemical Industry Society of China released the "100 years of China's Chemical Industry" at the 100th anniversary of the society's founding.

Looking back on the hundred years of struggle, China Chemical Industry Society bearing the mission of revitalizing the national chemical industry came into being. On April 23, 1922, China Chemical Industry Association, the predecessor of the China Chemical Industry Association, was established in Beijing, which was one of the earliest academic organizations in China. Its birth, so that Chinese chemical science and technology workers have their own academic organization, for the early chemical industry to inject new vitality.

In 1949, the new China blew the horn of industrial construction, all industries are waiting for prosperity, chemical workers are full of industry to serve the country, actively respond to the call of the party, meet the difficulties, hard work, and write a brilliant chapter of the foundation of New China's chemical industry. In June 1956, the Chinese Chemical Industry Association and the Chinese Society of Chemical Engineering were formally merged into the Chemical Industry Society of China, with Hou Debang as the chairman.

China Chemical Industry Society actively carries out academic activities at home and abroad, publishes academic journals, popularizes chemical knowledge, establishes local chemical industry societies in various provinces and cities, unites and gathers chemical science and technology workers, and contributes chemical industry personnel to the construction of new China.

With the tide of socialist country construction, China's chemical industry has successively built 13 sets of large fertilizer, four sets of chemical fiber, 300,000 tons of ethylene and other major projects related to the national economy and people's livelihood, and the national, provincial and ministerial level and enterprise-level three-dimensional chemical scientific research system has been fully completed, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent development of China's chemical industry.

Since the reform and opening up, the chemical industry has ushered in accelerated development. The development of science and technology gives rise to the endogenous impetus of the industry. Chemical industry "introduction", "go out", gradually built a series of international advanced level of ten million tons of oil refining, one million tons of ethylene and modern three major synthetic materials production base, chemical industry began to gradually take off.
