China News Network reporter in Shanxi historical abandoned mine ecological restoration demonstration project - Dongliangzhuang village of Yinying Town on the outskirts of Yangquan City saw that the once devastated land is now a series of cultivated land, full of vitality.

In the past, the disorderly mining of refractory bauxite in Dongliangzhuang village led to the destruction of the mountain. After unremitting efforts, the "injured" land has been carefully restored, the abandoned mine has been covered with "green clothes", the contiguous area of cultivated land has reached 130 mu, more than 56 mu of woodland, and the total management area of the project area has reached 186.1 mu. The reclaimed land can be cultivated and afforested.

The newly restored 130 mu of cultivated land in Dongliangzhuang village is covered with selenium-rich soil, which is very suitable for planting local advantageous agricultural products such as sweet potato, sorghum and corn. In 2022, the annual income of the village collective will be increased by more than 250,000 yuan, and the average annual income of the village collective residents will be increased by about 4,000 yuan, achieving a win-win situation between ecological restoration and farmers' income increase.

Like Dongliangzhuang Village, after ecological restoration, the abandoned open-pit mine in Dianping Village, Guanshan Town, Pingding County, Yangquan City, is now covered with green mountains, abandoned mining land has become arable land, and tailings pond water has become a landscape lake... Through ecological restoration and renovation, the former "scar" of the earth has become an ecological park, the beauty of good fields, and the "Jinshan Silver Mountain".

The restoration of 417 ecological paintings in mines

Dongliangzhuang Village and Shiping village are only the epitome of ecological restoration of abandoned open-pit mines in Yangquan City. Qiao Lijun, director of the Land greening and ecological restoration center of Yangquan City Planning and Natural Resources Bureau, said that Yangquan City undertakes the ecological restoration and management work of abandoned open-pit mines around Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei Province and Fenwei Plain area. The total number of repaired mines in the city is 417, and the total area of repaired is 20698.99 mu, involving urban areas, mining areas, suburbs, Yu County and Pingding County. A total of 23 governance project areas have been formed.

Qiao Lijun said that after the implementation of the ecological restoration and management project, the occurrence of geological disasters has been effectively prevented and protected the lives and property safety of residents in the project area, and the purpose of disaster prevention and reduction has been achieved. At the same time, the land function of the abandoned open-pit mine is restored, which is conducive to economic development. In addition, ecological restoration work adopts comprehensive management measures such as protection, consolidation, filling and planting to control the geological environment of abandoned open-pit mines, and significantly improve the land utilization rate and productivity.

Through comprehensive ecological restoration and management of abandoned open-pit mines, 5013.97 mu of cultivated land, 11674.5 mu of forest land, 2722.01 mu of grassland and 1288.55 mu of other land were restored, so that all the damaged mountains were restored, the land damaged by abandoned open-pit mines was restored, and water and soil were preserved.
