In 2020, chemical fiber accounted for more than 84% of the total textile fiber processing, and China's chemical fiber production has accounted for more than 70% of the world. The general fiber as a whole maintains the international leading level, the high performance fiber technology level is gradually moving towards a new stage of running with the world's leading level, the integration of refining and chemical enterprises has made remarkable progress, the whole industry has won 4 national science and technology awards, and 3 enterprises have been selected as the national intelligent manufacturing pilot demonstration project. Positive progress has been made in energy conservation and emission reduction, pollution prevention and control, and comprehensive utilization of resources, brand building continues to play a supporting role of "increasing varieties, improving quality, and creating brands", and talent construction actively supports industry innovation and development.

Since the "13th Five-Year Plan", the development of the chemical fiber industry has achieved good results, but there are also many problems that plague the development of the industry and need continuous attention, mainly including: Investment in some industries still needs to be rational, some key equipment, raw material technology shortcomings still need to break through, import dependence is high, the upstream and downstream collaborative development of high-performance fibers needs to be promoted, recycling, degradable materials, bio-based materials need to accelerate technological progress and market expansion.

Second, the situation facing the development of the 14th Five-Year Plan

The "14th Five-Year Plan" period is a critical period for China to move from building a well-off society in an all-round way to basically realizing socialist modernization. Under the background of the century-old transformation promoted by the novel coronavirus epidemic, the international force balance has been profoundly adjusted, and the impact of national security, public security and industrial security on economic decision-making of various countries has deepened, which will promote the adjustment and reconstruction of the international textile industry chain and supply chain pattern. The development of chemical fiber industry is facing new opportunities and challenges.

New material technology innovation occupies the forefront of the new scientific and technological revolution, and the application of cutting-edge technologies such as genetic engineering, polymer modification, and nano provides a broader technical path for textile fiber material innovation. Green and sustainable development put forward new requirements. China has proposed to strive to achieve the peak of carbon dioxide emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060. The new development goal points out the important responsibility of strengthening carbon emission reduction for the chemical fiber industry. The chemical fiber industry, as the most important raw material link in the textile industry chain, bears the social responsibility of green manufacturing and ecological protection with the whole textile industry chain. At the same time, it also independently undertakes the mission of developing diversified biological raw material resources, improving the recycling level of fiber products, and solving the problem of excessively high proportion of petroleum raw materials. Consumption upgrading provides new space for industrial development.
