OVERVIEW
The GE IC697BEM731Z, part of the GE Fanuc Series 90-70 family of programmable logic controllers (PLCs), is a powerful bus controller module. It is primarily used to connect up to 30 devices and transfer data by passing tokens between all configured devices on the same bus.
Main features
Channel and Connectivity:
The module has a channel for connecting with devices located on the same bus.
A Hand Held Monitor (HHM) port is provided for downloading configurations to the module using the MS DOS or Windows programming software configurator function.
Configuration and Addressing:
Delivered without a defined bus address.
The configuration software sets the default address to 153.6 Kbaud standard and bus address 31. This default address can be modified by downloading a valid configuration to the CPU.
Communication Distance:
When configured to 153.6 Kbaud (standard), the maximum allowable distance of the communication bus is 2000 ft.
3500 feet when configured as 153.6 KBaud (extended).
4500 feet when configured for 76.8 KBaud.
7500 feet when configured for 38.4 KBaud.
Physical Communications:
The physical communications cable used to set up the network is a Belden Model 9182 cable.
Bus terminator plugs must be installed on both ends of the bus.
Software Configuration and Data Transfer:
Transfer of global data between CPUs is supported via Windows-based software configuration.
An IC697 PLC alarm system can be added for reporting time-stamped faults on the processor data sheet.

The module has a modular structure to accommodate individual sites.
