Product positioning and core values

In the ABB AC800M DCS control system architecture, the DSTD150 I/O connection terminal unit plays a core role in "signal conversion and connection guarantee". Its core value lies in solving the physical connection problem between I/O modules and field devices, achieving standardized signal transmission and convenient system maintenance. Its specific positioning can be expanded from three levels:

1. Signal hub between I/O module and field devices: As an intermediate adapter component, DSTD150 is quickly connected to AC800M series I/O modules (such as AO801, AI801) through a dedicated connector on one end, and connected to cables of field sensors and actuators through wiring terminals on the other end, achieving bidirectional transmission of digital/analog signals and avoiding the risk of interface damage caused by direct hard connection between I/O modules and field cables.

2. Carrier for standardized wiring and convenient maintenance: Using standardized terminal numbers and clear identification, the corresponding relationship between each signal connection is clear at a glance, reducing wiring error rates; Support quick plugging and replacement of modules. When the I/O module fails, there is no need to disassemble the on-site cables. Simply disconnect the terminal unit from the module to complete the replacement, greatly reducing maintenance time.

3. Stability and safety guarantee of signal transmission: It has good mechanical strength and contact performance, and the terminal adopts anti loosening design, which can effectively resist the vibration impact of industrial sites and avoid signal interruption caused by loose wiring; Some models support reliable grounding of shielded cables, enhancing the ability to suppress electromagnetic interference and ensuring the stability of weak signal transmission.

Core functional features

The DSTD150 I/O connection terminal unit is designed based on the stringent connection requirements of industrial sites, integrating ABB's practical experience in the field of connection technology, and has the following outstanding functional features:

-Modular design and quick docking: using standardized mechanical interfaces that match the AC800M series I/O modules, and achieving "plug and play" quick docking with modules through dedicated pin connectors, without the need for separate wiring; The terminal unit itself supports DIN rail installation, which is consistent with the installation method of the I/O module, facilitating layout planning and unified fixation inside the control cabinet.

-Multi specification terminals and flexible wiring: equipped with multiple specifications of spring or screw type terminal blocks, supporting single/multi strand copper core cable connections of 0.5mm ² -2.5mm ² specifications; The terminal spacing meets industrial standards, and there is ample space for wiring operations. It is compatible with both cold pressed terminals and direct wiring, and can adapt to different on-site wiring requirements.

-Anti misconnection and anti loosening protection design: The terminals are designed with polarity, and key signal terminals (such as power supply positive and negative poles, signal ground wires) are clearly marked and equipped with anti insertion structures to avoid reverse polarity during wiring; Screw terminals adopt self-locking nut design, while spring terminals have constant clamping force, which can effectively prevent loose wiring caused by vibration and ensure long-term connection reliability.

-A comprehensive identification system and traceability: The surface of the terminal unit is printed with clear terminal numbers and signal type identification, which correspond one-to-one with the channel numbers of the I/O modules; Support customized tag card insertion, which can label the name, tag number, and other information of the on-site equipment connected to each terminal, facilitating signal traceability and maintenance troubleshooting in the later stage.

-Compatible with multiple types of I/O modules and signals: It has good compatibility and can be used in conjunction with AC800M series analog input/output modules (such as AI801, AO801) and digital input/output modules (such as DI801, DO801); Supports the transmission of multiple signal types such as 4-20mA current signal, 0-10V voltage signal, and switch signal, without the need to replace terminal units according to signal types.

Precautions for use

Although the DSTD150 I/O connection terminal unit is an auxiliary component, it directly affects the stability of signal transmission and system maintenance efficiency. During installation, wiring, and maintenance, the following specifications must be strictly followed:

-Installation environment specifications: The terminal unit should be installed together with the I/O module in a well ventilated, dust-free, non corrosive gas, and non condensing control cabinet, avoiding direct sunlight; The installation location should be far away from high-power heating equipment (such as frequency converters and resistors), and the distance from such equipment should not be less than 15cm to prevent high temperatures from affecting the insulation performance of the terminals; During installation, it is necessary to ensure that the DIN rail is firmly fixed to avoid displacement of the terminal unit due to vibration.

-Wiring operation specifications: Before wiring, the system power supply and on-site equipment power supply must be cut off, and a multimeter must be used to confirm that there is no residual voltage in the cable to avoid electric shock or signal interference; The length of cable stripping should meet the terminal requirements (usually 6-8mm) to avoid short circuits between terminals caused by excessive stripping or poor contact caused by insufficient stripping; For multi strand cables, it is recommended to use cold pressed terminals for crimping before connecting to the terminal unit to ensure sufficient contact area; After the wiring is completed, gently pull the cable to verify if the connection is secure.

-Specification for docking with I/O modules: Before docking with I/O modules, it is necessary to clean the dust and debris on the connector pins to ensure that the pins are not bent or deformed; When docking, align the positioning pin of the module interface and smoothly push it in until you hear a "click" locking sound to avoid damaging the pins due to forced insertion and removal; If disassembly is required, first press the unlock button at the interface, and then smoothly pull it out. It is forbidden to directly pull or tug on the terminal unit.

-Identification and traceability standards: After wiring is completed, the corresponding on-site equipment tag number and signal type of each terminal should be marked on the label card of the terminal unit in a timely manner to ensure that the identification is consistent with the actual connection; Suggest taking wiring photos and establishing an electronic ledger to record the correspondence between terminal numbers and equipment information, providing a basis for later maintenance; When there is a change in on-site equipment or wiring, the identification and ledger need to be updated synchronously.

-Key points for daily maintenance and troubleshooting: Regularly check whether the wiring of the terminal unit is loose every week, with a focus on troubleshooting the terminals in areas with high vibration; Clean the dust on the surface of the terminal unit every month, using a dry brush or compressed air (pressure ≤ 0.3MPa) for blowing to avoid dust accumulation and insulation performance degradation; When signal abnormalities occur, the signal values at both ends of the terminal unit can be measured using a multimeter to determine whether the fault is located in the on-site equipment, cable, or I/O module, thereby improving troubleshooting efficiency.
