Jingjiang City, Jiangsu Province is the largest private shipbuilding base and national ship export base in China. At present, Jingjiang has basically formed a complete industrial chain of manufacturing, repair, demolition and supporting.
Let's start with two sets of data --
In 2021, the completed shipbuilding capacity of Jingjiang accounted for 10.24% of the global total and 21.6% of the national total. The number of new orders accounted for 14.7% of the global total and 27.3% of the national total; Hand-held orders accounted for 10.78% of the global total and 22.7% of the national total.
From January to September this year, the three major indicators of Jingjiang shipbuilding continued to lead the country, the city completed 67 ships with a total of 5.174 million deadweight tons, received 81 new orders with a total of 7.405 million deadweight tons, and held 243 orders with a total of 24.231 million deadweight tons. Among the industrial enterprises in the city, there are 31 ships and supporting enterprises, with a cumulative output value of 17.601 billion yuan from January to August.
Break through the technical bottleneck and win the right to speak in the international market
Advanced technology is the first productive force, is Jingjiang shipbuilding from scratch, from weak to strong, development, leading the country's important "code". LNG dual-fuel ships and very large container ships, which represent the world's most cutting-edge shipbuilding technology, are now fully "landing flowers" in Jingjiang shipbuilding industry.
In the "triangular relationship" of international ships between China, South Korea and Japan, Jingjiang shipbuilding industry avoids the common "collision ship" competition mode of price competition and mutual exploitation, and seeks unique advantages in dislocation development, and eventually forms large-scale industrial clusters.
When the reporter interviewed the new era shipbuilding company, the entire pier showed a busy scene of heat. "This is a 500,000-ton dock with four 210,000 ton LNG dual-fuel bulk carriers being built at the same time. At Pier 3 ahead, there are five 210,000 tons of LNG dual-fuel bulk carriers being outfitted." Liu Mingfeng, project manager of the company, said that the company's three large shipyards and three outfitting docks are currently operating at full capacity, and production orders have been scheduled to 2026.
In recent years, with the continuous promotion of global shipping greenhouse gas emission reduction strategy, the new shipbuilding market has rapidly turned to green ships, and LNG-powered ships have become the most popular ships in the international shipping market.
LNG refers to liquefied natural gas. Compared with ordinary fuel tankers, LNG powered ships can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 20% and save energy consumption by 8% under the same working condition. "Whoever has LNG power technology will have a say in the international shipping industry." Sun Quan, director of the development office of the New Era Ship Design and Research Institute, said that LNG fuel needs to be stored at a low temperature of -163 ° C, and the difficulty of ship construction has increased exponentially. After successively overcoming the key difficulties in the research and development of ship type linear design, subdivision arrangement, energy conservation and emission reduction, on February 15 this year, the first 110,000 tons of new LNG dual-fuel power tanker developed by the company and designed by the company with independent intellectual property rights was successfully delivered to the Singapore ship owner.
New Yangtze Shipbuilding focuses on the construction of ultra-large container ships, and takes green, environmentally friendly and low-carbon clean energy power ships and transport ships as the direction of product upgrading, implementing key core technology research, industrial base reconstruction, industrial chain optimization and upgrading.
In 2021, New Yangzi Shipbuilding and Hong Kong Tiger Gas jointly developed the world's largest LNG tank transport dual-fuel deck cargo ship. With its technological advantages, New Yangzi successfully obtained the first batch of orders for 40,000 cubic meters of liquefied petroleum gas vessels and 7,000 TEU container ships for LNG dual fuel.
On October 12, the 15,000TEU container ship "New Yangzi 412" was delivered and started its maiden voyage. Ding Chao, director of the construction of the company, introduced that this is the largest ship built in the new Yangtze River so far, and also the largest container ship navigable in the Yangtze River this year, as the latest generation of large container ships suitable for global routes, with low fuel consumption, less emissions, large loading and other characteristics, ship loading capacity, operation speed, safety and other indicators have reached the world advanced level.
New Era shipbuilding began to take orders for 10,000-ton ships in 1996, and delivered the first 10,000-ton ship in 1998. Today, Jingjiang Shipbuilding industry has transformed from the three traditional main ship types of traditional bulk carriers, oil tankers and container ships to high value-added LNG-powered and dual-fuel powered ships, and has taken a leading position in the domestic market of large dual-fuel powered ships. To "high-end, intelligent, green" transformation, more and more giant ships from Jingjiang dock to the depths of the ocean.
Elongate the industrial chain and enhance the comprehensive competitiveness of the cluster
Shipbuilding supporting industry is an important part of shipbuilding industry, and its development level directly affects the comprehensive competitiveness of shipbuilding industry. In recent years, Jingjiang City has continued to enlarge the leading role of ship enterprises, further improve the industrial system, lengthen the industrial chain, greatly improve the industrial scale, and significantly enhance the comprehensive competitiveness of industrial clusters.
In September this year, the national Ship Outfitting standardization Technical Committee Marine mooring cable standardization working group establishment conference and the first working group meeting was held in Jingjiang City, Jiangsu Yaxing anchor chain Co., Ltd. as the leader unit. Starting from the village office enterprise, Yaxing anchor chain has become China's large-scale Marine anchor chain and Marine mooring chain and accessories production and export base, with an annual capacity of 300,000 tons, more than 70% of the company's products are exported, and Marine anchor chain and mooring chain account for more than 60% of the global market.
"China's first floating offshore wind power platform is the use of Substar anchor chain mooring chain. We broke through the "bottleneck" technology in the field of mooring chains in the Department of Marine engineering, led the preparation of the first world standard for Marine mooring chains, and raised the research and development and manufacturing technology of mooring chains to the world's leading level." Tao Xing, chairman of Yaxing Chain Company, introduced that the indicators of the new high-end mining chain developed by the company at the same time have also reached the international level, and have been used in a number of mines, and the market share has steadily increased. At present, the number of hand-held orders is good, and the number of orders increased by 10% to 15% over the same period last year.
In addition to large companies like Yaxing anchor chain, Jingjiang City has a number of small and medium-sized ship supporting enterprises, around ship repair, active chain extension, chain reinforcement, strong chain, to promote the development of industrial clusters, Fuyuan ships, Haihong Plastics is the most typical example.
Jingjiang Fuyuan Marine Parts Co., Ltd. started with electronic parts. Seeing that shipbuilding companies produced tens of thousands of tons of scrap material every year was difficult to deal with, Fuyuan ships conceived the idea of using shipyard scrap material to process Marine flanges.
"Using scrap materials to process flanges needed by ship enterprises not only saves our production costs, but also reduces the production costs of ship enterprises to a certain extent, achieving a win-win situation." Ni Wenliang, general manager of Fuyuan Ship Parts Company, said the company's annual processing capacity is about 50,000 tons, half of which is waste from local shipbuilders. Now, China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited, New era shipbuilding, New Yangzi Shipbuilding and so on have become stable customers of Fuyuan Shipbuilding.
"Haihong Plastics is our preferred partner." Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. engineer Cao Huaiyu told reporters that the sample inspection is a batch of ship desulfurization system and ballast system with glass steel pipes, this year, Waigaoqiao company and Haihong signed a 10 million yuan product order, "The original Waigaoqiao company used glass steel pipes are imported from abroad, At present, the performance of Haihong's products is not worse than that of imports, and the price is much lower."
"Getting orders from big customers such as Waigaoqiao, New Times and New Yangzi is mainly because we can provide good enough products." Bao Wei, assistant general manager of Haihong Plastic Company, said that as the first private enterprise to apply plastic pipes to ships in China, the company spent 7 years in research and development, becoming the first enterprise with independent intellectual property rights of Marine pipeline penetration parts in China, and becoming the drafting unit of Marine plastic pipe industry standards.
At present, the new factory of Haihong Plastics has entered trial operation, and the support of new plants, new equipment and new technologies has enabled the company to have the production capacity of wear-resistant glass steel pipes and fittings, high temperature resistant, flame retardant plastic pipes and fittings, flame retardant elastic cabin components, and more abundant product lines. Bao Wei introduced that the company's goal is to double the output value within two years, the annual output value reaches 500 million yuan, and become the leader in the field of international Marine non-metallic pipelines.
In recent years, Jingjiang City has developed a number of Marine motor, anchor chain, pump valve, cable, decorative materials and other ship manufacturing supporting enterprises, and the localized matching rate has reached more than 40%. The city is further improving the ship supporting industry chain to build a ship industry cluster with "complete components, leading industrial scale, complete industrial chain and concentrated industrial distribution".
The government and enterprises worked together to consolidate and enhance the global leadership
In the face of the dual impact of changes in the international market environment and the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, Jingjiang City's government and enterprises have joined forces to help shipbuilding enterprises give full play to their respective advantages, make every effort to "secure delivery of ships, compete for orders, and promote development", and break the waves in the crisis to achieve development against the trend.
During the epidemic in the first half of this year, a large number of Marine spare parts imported by Jingjiang shipbuilding enterprises through Shanghai port were demurred, and imported container assembly goods could not be exchanged and picked up in time, which seriously affected the normal production of enterprises. Jingjiang Customs took the initiative to contact Shanghai Customs and relevant functional departments, gave full play to the role of the Yangtze River Delta Customs coordination mechanism, strengthened communication and coordination with the port, logistics and other enterprises, solved the difficulties in the circulation of goods in a timely manner, accelerated the exchange of documents and delivery of goods, and promoted the timely delivery of goods in the factory.
When Jingjiang Customs visited enterprises, it was found that the problem of recording the manual of processing trade has been making enterprises anxious. Due to the long production cycle of ships, enterprises need to postpone the processing trade manual, and some even need to postpone twice. Through comprehensive assessment, Jingjiang Customs provides policy support for enterprises in the recording, extension and verification of processing trade manuals, greatly shortening the time for enterprises to handle relevant procedures, and can handle manual extension procedures without paying a deposit. "That's a lot of real money saved for companies!" New era shipbuilding general manager Liu Haijin said.
It is difficult for a penny to cross the vast sea, but we all pull the galleon with OARS. On September 17, the 15,000TEU container ship "New Yangzi 412", the largest in the Yangtze River channel, was on trial. In order to escort this "giant" safely out of the river, Jingjiang Maritime escorted 140 kilometers by "relay" under the cooperation of five branches along the river, including Jiangyin, Zhangjiagang, Nantong, Changshu and Taicang. A total of four high-horsepower tugs, 22 coastguard boats, five drones, two guard and maintenance boats, and more than 50 maritime law enforcement officers were deployed. Since this year, Jingjiang Marine Department service new shipbuilding trial operation record 57 times.
Shipbuilding is a labor-intensive industry, and a ship company often needs thousands or even tens of thousands of skilled workers such as welders. The relevant departments in the city actively help enterprises implement digital and intelligent transformation, and vigorously promote the creation of intelligent demonstration workshops, and now the new era and the New Yangtze have begun their respective transformation and upgrading.
Jingjiang aims to build a world-class shipbuilding industry base, focus on the green and high-quality development of the shipping industry, grasp innovation, make up for weaknesses, optimize layout, and seek high-end, and strive to consolidate and enhance Jingjiang Shipbuilding's leading position in the world.
